Calling all vegetarians !!!

I'm more a free range poultry guy myself.

I did grow up on an organic farm in the 70's and still eat organic when I can. I'll eat red meat occasionally if hormone free.

I don't understand people that have problems with dairy products? Eggs I can figure out, but not cheese?

And on a side note, if you look in your mouth, you'll find two pointed teeth on the sides called canines. They're there for a reason....

P.S. Is it just me or does it seem like alot of the female side of the species are the ones who are interested or partake in vegitarian or veganism? I have nothing to back that up, but I do get that impression? Any feedback?

In my brother's case, it has to do with an objection to the way the animals are
cared for on farms. So, the cheese would fit right in with that too. Plus the fact that the most common source for rennet used in cheese production is the fourth stomach new-born calves. Personally, I could give up meat fairly easily, but cheese is a different matter altogether.

You can get around these two moral objections by getting vegetarian organic cheese. Yes, there is vegan rennet. Obviously there isn't vegan *cheese*(well, except the soy stuff), but organic milk cows are treated very humanely. If you have a problem with cruelty but aren't willing to go veg, go organic. It's worth the money and tastes better anyway.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I'm a fish-eating vegetarian (pescatarian). My motto is "don't eat anything you wouldn't personally kill." That makes the moral decision very simple for me. Baby cows? No thanks. Grey sole? Bring it on.

That said, a typical quick meal for me (I eat this at least 4 times a week) is Uncle Ben's 90 second brown rice, tofu-2-go, organic frozen veggies, and a good sauce tossed together in a wok. I find being a vegetarian to be very simple. It takes time to break the meat-eating habit but once you're used to it it's incredibly easy.

Yes, I realize there are other sources for rennet and that cheese from organic farms would be another option. There is most likely something else about dairy that he objects to as well that I'm forgetting.

Actually, he is the same way. On the rare ocassion that he eats an animal product, it is fish, but it has to be raw. I haven't been able to get the reasoning for that one out of him yet. I get the fish part, just not the rawness part.

Oh I didn't mean to imply you didn't know, having a vegan brother you probably know more about it than me. I was sort of...ruminating on the topic, not trying to preach!

Yes, I think it probably does have something to do with that! But he really has given up a lot of things for what he thinks is right, so I won't bug him too much about it. lol

The thing about dairy products is that non-organic dairy cows are basically kept constantly pregnant and their calves are torn away at birth to become veal cows (or killed) and they are then inseminated again. That's how they produce so much milk. I personally only drink organic milk, after reading hugely gross reports on chronic mastitis in non-organic cows and what can pass into the milk, not to mention the huge levels of antibiotics the cows are fed in an effort to stave off the aforementioned infections.

Wow. I could never do it. Last summer when I was in Scotland we were travelling with someone who was on the South Beach diet. I can't even imagine being Vegan and trying to find food internationally.

As for dairy, I can't eat it just for the plain and simple reason that I'm lactose intolerant

I would say that I eat 'vegetarian' about 90% of the time. I really have nothing against eating meat, or animal killing, I've just found that I have so much more energy eating this way, also, I can tell a difference in just the way my skin looks also, it has a very healthy glow when eating a lot of fruits and veggies

Ok, seriously now, hold on to your hats ladies and gents... Wild Root was too Vegetarian at one time in his life...

*Gasp* I know... crazy yes? Well, it wasn't really my idea. I was a kid and my mother wanted to go on a diet so, she had a friend who was vegetarian and they got to talking

soon as I knew it, our whole family was on a vegetarian kick! We were on it for 2 or 3 years... then; my mother realized she shouldn't force all of us to be that way so, back to a regular diet for my brother and I. I did lose a lot of weight... I was really chunky when I was a lad... then I lost it all! I was very thin. But, having gone through that, I still try and eat more veggies, I love veggies very much, fresh fruit and the like... it's great! But, I eat mostly chicken, fish and turkey and now and a gain, I have to have a steak at "The Pantry". I eat pretty much a "Depression Era" diet. I eat red meat rarely because the opportunity to eat it isn't always at hand.

The young lady I'm currently dating is a vegetarian. She's an animal lover which isn't a bad thing. She never says anything to me about me eating meat when we go out. I always try and pick a place that would have something for her to eat. She does eat dairy products and eggs so, it makes it easy. I had her over last week and I made her a nice dinner of lentil soup and fresh corn bread... I didn't prepare any meat for me, it was a nice dinner and she enjoyed it. I've know some vegetarians and they can be very, objective to any one eating meat around them and they can try and force they're opinions on those who do eat meat. She doesn't even mention it. I once asked her if it bothers her that I eat meat... she replied that it doesn't, the vegetarian thing is just her thing she said.

I think that it was so sweet you made dinner for her...got me to thinking though, the mister has only cooked me dinner maybe 3 times in the whole 12 years we've been together!
With all the guys I've talked to, they do seem to be naturally meat eaters, and could live off of the classic diet of bacon, eggs, sausage, meat and potatoes. It would be interesting though to find out if there are any guys in here that are vegetarians, or mostly so..and if they like it!

Well, just doing what comes naturally!

I always try and keep the best interest of my date in mind; I want her to be happy and comfortable. And, it also helps that I can eat meat or not... I enjoy it but, I'm not going to die if I don't have it in one day. I couldn't ever eat bacon every morning... to much grease! I eat light most of the time and enjoy a good IN-N-OUT burger now and again. Everything in moderation I say!

A man's idea of cooking for a woman is eating out.

Thus, I am sure he has cooked for you a few times.

well, if we count eating out....that's a whole different story then! There is something about a guy making a whole meal for you that really means a lot to a girl, it communicates taking the time to actually plan it and all the rest that goes with it, rather touching really

My wife knows better than to ask me to cook. That usually means take out or going out in general. We'll go to Benihanna if she wants to see a guy make a whole meal for her. lol
