A classic!
"Where oh where are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and I thought I found true love.
You met another and pfft you was gone!"

And another great rendition of the song, performed with The Band during ther final 'Last Waltz' show.

What a show that was, I have it on VHS. Sometime I need to convert it to a DVD. I agree with you on Skaggs and Rice, a couple of great performers, and Doc, what can you say?
I also heard some great old-time music on a movie this weekend, "Winter Bones".

I happen to be listening to it on my new Shawshank Redemption CD, not actually on YouTube at the moment, but that was just to share it with you all. Great film, great soundtrack, and good songs!

Primitive - Luis Russell & Orch., August. Rube Bloom wrote a piano novelty which Russell made into a stylish bit of modernism for his band (shortly to become Louis Armstrong's). Albert Nicholas' clarinet, Bingie Madison's tenor and Rex Stewart's cornet contribute.

How's About Tomorrow Night? - Ina Ray Hutton & Melodears, July. Inventive arrangement with a bag of tricks. "There's a double feature at the Strand / A good excuse to hold my hand." Just don't let it go much further - I hear their manager's a real stickler for decorum. ;)

Black Panther Stomp - Patrick et son orchestre de danse, December. Trombone man Guy Paquinet presents a passel of perspicacious Parisians. Django's in there chonk-a-chonkin' away on a peppy but slightly aimless composition.

It Happens to the Best of Friends - Benny Goodman & Music Hall Orch., August. The band of a generation, only nobody knew it yet - sounding fresh as tomorrow's newspaper on a nonchalant little opus scored up-and-comingly by Benny Carter.

Hi everyone, this might be a really annoying question (if so, sorry) i only know the smallest bit about the most famous bandleaders, but i heard the song Joltin' Joe DiMaggio about half a year ago and i'm completely smitten with it. I want it on my ipod (i know, old school, right?) but i can't find it on cd anywhere. Does anyone know of a cd that the song has been put onto? (it'd be great if there were more Les Brown songs on there but isn't necessary) if not i'll just have to listen to it on spotify for the rest of my days. or wait a couple of years until i have a job/life and i can afford to buy a record player and learn how to not-destroy the needle. :p xxx

You'll find that one right here!

That was a huge hit in 1941, and tells the story of Joe D's 56-game hitting streak, which was brought to an end when he was held hitless "one night in Cleveland." Probably second only to "Sentimental Journey" as the most famous record Les Brown ever made.
