The listing I was watching was for the 7 1/4 size in darker brown, which is definitely newer, kind of a turd for the money. The size 7 listed for $10 by seller Steveschurman is a lot older. Maybe not quite a 40s example, it is hard to tell from his images. His auctions have been very good, they all seem to be size 7, personal collection? The sweat is wider and the liner embroidered (probably). One fine Bird for sure. I think it will go for some major bucks, I know of a couple of Loungers who are interested.

I don't know for sure who this Steve seller is, but his listings are spot on, good (although a little slim) descriptions and a fair starting price. The cream rises to the top and his good ones go for proper money. Stefan from the Netherlands follows this seller, as do I (For trading fodder with Stefan), but all is fair in love and hat auctions. The key is not to be an Ebay newbie and start bidding too early, wait til the auction is finally shaking out and then jump in. I think the dating is OK, but Dobbs kind of split the 40s/50s on some features. I would also read up on the "Hatted Professor" website, it is a dating heaven for Dobbs. You can find it in a simple Google search.
