I saw this listed a few days ago. The photo quality was terrible (see below) and the hat was not a style I was looking for; however, it was cheap and it had a make an offer option. I offered half of the already cheap price and within five minutes the seller accepted. Now this small proportioned mystery Cavanagh is on its way for little more than the cost of shipping.
It could well be a misshapen lump of dark brown felt not worth even the little I paid for it but I had to take the chance. I’m not the only one who does this, am I?

My best eBay hat deals are usually offers with a very poor presentation, coming from people who don`t know much about hats or how to sell them on eBay successfully; i.e. bad photos of a dusty and out of shape hat with a weak description and missing details (amazing how often you see an offer without a correct hat size).
Many potential buyers will skip such offers.
When you're lucky, you see something that reveals it's true value and you can make a great bargain.
This is how I bought most of my high quality vintage Borsalinos and Stetsons for under 50$ a piece.

I "watch" a hat until I bid.... about 20 seconds before the close of the auction. Bidding in advance only serves to run the price up in a frenzy, which I avoid.

It looks like the dimensions of my "Rat Pack" Cav. From that era too, I would guess at latest mid 1960s. You are going to love, love, love this felt.
