"V" Stitching in old Stetson Hats, vs. "V" stitching in Stetsons made in Australia

Here is my dilemma. As far as I know, Stetson stopped using the "V"stitching in their
sweatbands, at about the year 1900, and started using the UP AND DOWN STITCH. I have an old BOSS RAW EDGE hat with the
"V" stitching instead of the UP AND DOWN stitching.
I am trying to date a hat advertised on E-Bay. The seller is Nikkita 55. The hat being advertised is a BOSS OF THE PLAINS model, under the STETSON name, but made in
Australia. This hat has the GOOD TO THE LAST DROP liner, which I was told dates it
to the 60's, when Stetson started working with AKUBRA, in Australia. What is confusing is that the stitching in this hat is the "V" Stitching. I guess it is possible that Akubra
could have been using the "V" stitching as late as the 60's or 70's.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, CRABMAN

I wouldn't get hung up on the V stitching since it's been made by Akubra. I have an Akubra Cockatoo 1035 that utilizes the same stitching:

There are a few scant references to this apparently rare model on here, and it can be inferred from one particular post that this hat can be dated to at least the 1990s. This is based on the date of the post and when the owner estimated when he bought it.

The BOTP hat you are inquiring about has already made an appearance on the Lounge. See the following link amongst others:

Thanks very much for your thorough reply! I was hoping that this Australian Stetson was closer to 1900-1920,
but obviously Australian Stetsons, and US Stetsons are miles apart, and Akubra has obviously been using the "V" stitch
in more recent times. Having said that, I am wondering then, what is so rare about this one? I will remain very happy with the BOSS RAW EDGE, US Stetson, with the "V" stitching, that I have now.
I am a size 7, approximately, so I may give this BOTP another look. Thanks Again for your kind and quick reply!

Someone more knowledgeable than I will have to chime in regarding the rarity of this hat, but for what it's worth I don't think an Akubra BOTP has been seen much around these parts. That being said, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it isn't anywhere close to being turn of the century old. There is a lot of false information provided by the seller in that listing. Please note I'm not saying it's a bad hat, it's just not as old as advertised.

If you dig around some of the Akubra threads you will probably find when Stetson licensed production to Akubra, which may help narrow down a timeframe for this hat a little better in conjunction with the Last Drop liner.
