I've always agreed with Henry Ford on exercise - if you're healthy you don't need it and if you're not, you shouldn't do it.

I like the pocket set-up and the narrower windfap/lapel on this better than on the J-23. Very nice jacket.

I guess this is my all time greatest score. While enjoying the morning sun I realised I was admiring the grain on this 60 something year old jacket and thinking "dang, this thing is remarkably...new looking". The hide has that almost glossy/greasy sheen like shinki does. The wrinkles and feel of the hide remind me of comp weight Vanson if only lighter by a third or so. The quilted lining (sleeves and body) is plush and surprisingly warm. There is cotton drill in the armpits for durability? Or better ventilation? The lower side belts are better functionally than the higher types, which I find I never tighten. I originally thought I'd put racer patches and a number on this, now I think it's simplicity and quality of material and build are stand alone adequate and super cool. Perhaps I should dedicate a thread to this piece of American history?

The Trojan is a bit shorter and sits perfectly while on my bike. So I prefer it to ride. For off-bike use, I would probably go with the J23, though both work extremely well off or on. The little details of both jackets are awesome, and make both models standout from the usual MC jacket. Both allow great freedom of movement, sleeves do not ride up when I reach for my 18” bars, the jackets do not bunch up at the waist when sitting, useful D pockets, etc. I love the cuff snap enclosures on the Trojan. I get a nice, tight fit while keeping the zips unzipped. Nice breeze for riding in S Florida. If you have specific questions please ask, you obviously are J23 initiated, I can compare with the Trojan for you.

They feel similar when worn. The J23s AB seems to work a bit better but I prefer the slighter “tighter” feel of the Trojan and definitely the CHP sans AB or shoulder gussets. That pattern nails movement without need for any “help”.

The leather on both is very different from the current leather seen on my CHP (and Hussar). It’s the leather some folks here negatively associate with LW. The new stuff is much more wearable from the start and gets really soft quickly. That said, I like the “old” leather quite a bit, a lot actually.

yes, I much prefer the older one. no front or back creases used to be one of the trademark of LW jacket (at least after one or two years use).

The 618 is an underrated motorcycle jacket. Very easy to wear and it kept the cold (mid-upper 40's)

Lake Erie breeze at bay.
