Stetson Royal De Luxe

EDFB372C-A6B4-4482-AA84-9CD79854B156.jpeg

Stetson Royal De Luxe
4 inch crown as shaped (5 1/4 open)
2 5/8 brim with matching grosgrain bound edge
7/8 champagne grosgrain mid ribbon

This Stetson Royal De Lux came off a white hot tip from @BobHufford and is proof that I am very weak when it comes to resisting a HAS attack. As it was less than ten seconds after seeing the stars on the sweat and liner logo I was hitting the buy now button. The felt color is a light tan sort of cream caramel with an almost matching champagne colored grosgrain mid ribbon. There are some foxing on the liner and a bit on the felt but nothing that stands out too much. The felt is thin a s shaped with ease. The sweat is nice and supple…. However I did manage to pop the reed tape stitches… so I will need to reattach. Shouldn’t be too much of an issue as it was just the thread that held the reed tape to the hat. Another interesting thing is the Stetson keyhole size tag is size 7 but the red reorder tag indicates 6 7/8… it seems to fit in between the two… so who knows. I know there was some thought that the stars in the sweat and liner logos indicated early 50s or older…. And that there is much conjecture as far as that goes. So I don’t know much on age… if anyone has any thoughts there it is appreciated. Thanks definitely go out to Bob for this excellent find which is going out with me tonight… loose sweat and all.

Been doing some conservation work myself. Picked up this Hückel fedora in grey. I really liked the blue tone the grey felt has. It was very dirty and needed a naphta bath and the ribbon was beyond saving, so I changed that. The more ribbons I do, the more I admire the work of the women who did that originally. It's a lot harder than you'd think and they don't get enough credit for it.
Size 58 with the bound brim at 5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Seems to have a chamois finish, but can't be sure, because the plastic covering of the liner was all but gone. I took out the remnants of that.

Back in Mexico with my latest haul. I steamed the Cavanagh straw and took new pictures.
I would like to know more about it, and @alanfgag has posted pictures of similar hats.
It is paper-thin, like linen, and the weaves are minuscule. Is it machine-made? How many Vueltas (turns) does it have? I still don't know how to count them. Does the button in the middle of the crown count as a Vuelta? Do you count the Vueltas by counting the thicker, marked lines?

I can't find my camera right now but just received my Batsakes fedora. I like the felt, soft hand with density. The ribbon/bow work is great. The downside is that it is a little tight on me so will need to upsize it a touch but I need to tear it down anyway to clean as the owner wore perfumed product in their hair and the hat stinks of cheap cologne or pommaide....yuk also the felt could use a refresh....it is in good shape but does look well used. Got it for a great price and now I can tick a Batsakes off my list....unless I find myself in Cincinnati in the next few years.
