You have very pretty hair!! But at that length I can see how it would be hard to style. My hair is probably four inches shorter and I'm having problems getting it up in rollers.

Well thank you all for your compliments, but as Minnierose said, it is the lenght that makes it so hard to style in different ets. I wouldn't mind finding a style that I could do with the lenght I have now, but so far no luck. As much as long hair looks good, it isn't versatile.. I think.
The Shirt - do you have a pic of the faux bob when you have done it? Also perhaps a short description of how to do it, without the sides flopping out?

Is long hair a very strong part of your sense of identity? How fast does your hair grow? How important is it for you to be able to put your hair up in rollers? No one else can really know what will make you happiest.
I agree with the person who said you have a face for short hair though so it would definitely suit you if that's what you're asking. You could even go much shorter than Dita and still look glamorous and very feminine. Not all of us could.
For me, long hair is such a strong part of my identity that I know I'll never go short again. For long hair, Evita and Faye Emerson are good hair icons. So which ever you choose, there's always a way to make it work with vintage and retro styling.
Also, some of us really do find long hair easier to maintain and style in updos than trying to tame shorter hairstyles. Which ever you choose, I hope you'll be happy with it and able to style it

Well, long hair has for the most part of my life been 'me' and everyone says I am crazy to cut it and the last time I had a lot cut off (about 15 inches - I was heavily medicated and really shouldn't had been let into the salon lol ) I ended up with that in a ponytail aswell..
My hair is VERY thick, naturally medium curly and there is lots of it, so it can't be too short either or I'll end up with a afro-lookalike (just like on my drivers license!)..
I know I am being impossible, but I think I need to be taken in the hands of a hairdresser that teaches me a fantastic style that's 'me' - longer or shorter hair is indifferent.

I think just below shoulder length would be a nice option for you. Not too short if it is quite curly and thick or it will just stick out. Shoulder length you can curl it tight on smaller rollers to make it look shorter or bigger rollers to make it more smooth and sleek.
I have shoulder length hair and by setting it tight it is up round my ears so you can change one cut quite alot and lots of pictures of Dita proves that.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I will....
You need to consider that you have bangs. If you get your hair cut to mid shoulder length or shorter, your hair shape might end up looking like a bob with bangs.
If you want your hair to look like Dita's consider growing your bangs out a little longer first, maybe to the bridge of your nose and get some long layers cut in.
You would be amazed what you can do with longer hair that most people say you cant.
I use the peach colored perm rods on my hair and I get such a tight curl (even when I brush it out) that it takes nearly 8 inches off my length. I mean, that makes the difference between hair that is waist long to hair that is just above my bra strap!
How the hair is rolled makes quite a bit of difference.... you should experiment with that first, and see what styles you can get out of your hair first.
I know everyone says that hair grows back, but it grows back at the rate of 1/2-3/4 of an inch a month. So if you get 8 inches cut off your hair that means that it will take you aproximately a year to get it back to that length.
Just putting it into perspective.
On the converse, Lolita's hair was almost down to her waist and she could do some pretty amazing things with it, but it wasn't until she cut about 4 inches off was she able to get more versatile styles. Then she went and cut another 3 inches after that. I know she said it was easier to do vintage styles with shorter hair.
Good luck with your decision... and if you decide to leave the world of longhairs, I commend you. I couldn't do it.. lol

I think taking a few inches off wouldn't hurt. I decided to just go for it and cut mine into some semblance of a middy and I absolutely love it. It takes hardly any work to style, and making rolls is soooooo much easier with 8 inches of hair than 16 inches. Then again, as thick as my hair is in terms of how much there is, the hairs themselves are baby fine, so I'm relatively certain you wouldn't get as good of results with an extreme chop like I did.

last fall and I found I could style it both ways, but I had to completely change how I dealt with my hair once it was shorter. I also just felt like a change and I didn't regret it at all. One day I just got out of the shower, grabbed some scissors and chopped it off.
Don't forget: If you DO chop off a lot of hair save the hair and make rats out of it! lol

I went from long to shorter a few months ago and I'm really happy. That being said, I have to style it. I can put it in a ponytail, but most of the time I make the effort. I wear bangs, too, and they look great. I can make them Betty style, straight, or swept to the side and I have three different looks.
Go for shoulder to make it not so traumatic, get gradual layers right at the front for front curls but don't cut the front corner of the bob off.
Clara had dark, curly hair, too, and she was the most beautiful thing ever!

I know, my bangs, I love them, it made such a huge difference when I got them, because they suit my long hair great.
Today at the Scandinavian Beauties get to gether, Cherry Lips told me about a book she had bought on amazon about long hair styles from the fifties, I might have to get a look in that book before I do anything.
I also really think about texture, my hair isn't suited for above shoulder lenght hair, it will simply curl up and be a huge mop of curls on top of my head.. On the other hand I think my layers are too long.. argh I dont know.. I simply don't know. But maybe a shorter version of my hair now would be pretty, that the curls will start further up (or maybe that only looked good in Flashdance!)

Really, Darhling, cut it off, hair grows back so one should never feel obliged to keep a certain length, hair is just hair and it's there to have fun with and play around with!
No matter how fabulous your long locks are, the short ones will be as well, and you'll appreciate the change, I'm sure, and also the versatility of a middy cut. If you miss the long hair too much, then just take some silica pills and it will grow back very fast. And Anna (ShrinkingViolet) has found a fabulous, very vintage-minded hairdresser in Copenhagen that you can get the cut from.

I know the grass always seems greener on the other side but I wish I had long hair like that with a similarly layered/graduated cut to the one I have now because it would enable me to have the long, healthy hair I crave and still be able to do a variety of styles. It would also be the most cost efficient and time saving length for me. Each to their own.
It's very individual what we find works best for us. I've had so many differerent haircuts and lengths in the past four years with the most different styles in the past 8 months. I don't regret anything though because I've learnt so much about my hair, what flatters me, and what styles are realistic for me to do with at my skill level, or lack of it...and most importantly; What makes me happiest with my hair!
