Borsalino Alessandria

Fresh from UPS. Perhaps the best fit I've had out of the box. Great condition. From Shudde Bros. Houston. Brim is near 2-3/4" at front, just over 2-5/8" otherwise. I "felt" it up to find its former crease.

RLK, that hat fits you really well. I like the dimensions of it with your face!

Gilgamark, I'm new to bashing hats, but to me that seems like an amazing first effort. I just did my first on a 70-yr old hat, and ended up taking it to a pro for touch-up. I really like where you have the back brim - I wouldn't change it a bit.

Thanks, I haven't been able to date it yet, and the lead the seller gave me (fire chief, and name) ended up with nothing. I took it to Byrnie Utz here in Seattle, where they steamed/re-bashed

, and they said it could definitely be 40's. Now I need to do some forum-searching to learn how to re-attach the lining - it's sadly disconnected.

In any case, I've worn it every day since acquiring, despite a bit of sneeze-inducing dust that I haven't been able to completely brush out. Taking the hint from the "Lucky Hat" thread, I wore it in a pool tourney last night and in a match-game, watched the defending champ shoot a straight in side-pocket 8-ball shot off the right nipple, where it amazingly took a dead left and ended up in the corner pocket. Now if that isn't a lucky, hat I don't know what is!

Take it back to the shop. They should have never returned it with a loose lining. Even if they charge a few extra bucks for the stitching, they should have told you it was loose and asked if you wanted to pay to have it re-attached.

My apologies - they didn't charge me to steam and re-bash. I wore it into the shop and showed it to one of the workers, who asked me if I wanted him to work on it a little. I never brought up doing work on the lining. The folks there are wonderful about helping you find the right hat, giving advice, even just talking about hats. I spent over an hour talking with the owner two weeks ago. But if I can't do it myself using directions found in this forum, I'll take it to them to do.

What about that FED????

That hat is now on a slow boat back to Australia...sent me the wrong size.
All worked out fine. Correct size and a Mean Green Akubra CEO for my bean are crossing the ocean now too.
So, the 58 Fed and the 60 Fed will be on two ships passing in the night (actually they're on planes...just not as poetic).

Thanks to all for the kind remarks. I was especially pleased with this one as I had to send back two other Borsalinos from ebay this week. One wrong size and the other ravaged by moths. I guess 1 out of 3 isn't so bad. Interestingly the seller had measured length and width correctly but measured the circumference as 3/4" smaller than my result.

New Dobbs from EBay

Here is a Dobbs Fifth Avenue I won on EBay last week. It arrived over the weekend, and after some cleaning and reshaping, I am wearing it in the studio today as it dries.

The felt on this one is stiffer and thicker than my older Stetsons (much heavier than the Lee Adventurer) and actually approaches my Akubra country hats in feel.

The brim is 2 1/4" wide, with a top-welted edge (did I phrase that right?). As I've bashed the crown, it is 4" at the crease up front, 4 1/4" in the back, and 4 3/4" on the side.

Any thoughts about its age? I have no clue.

Akubra Fedora - Burnt Oak

I ordered this last Sunday night (3/22/09) at about 9:30 PM, and it arrived on my doorstep this morning at 11 AM. That's about 5 1/2 days from Hats Direct to my door. I really wasn't expecting it until Tuesday or Wednesday so it was quite a surprise.

It seems a little darker to me than the pic on HD's website, almost more of a chocolate color to me, but I like it.

May try something different with the crease on this one, but for now it's similar to my Gray Fedora.

I have to say I really like that hat on you Fletch, but the thing that really stands out is the wonderful shape to the brim.:eusa_clap Maybe it is just the angle of the shot, but the brim sides appear to curl up more than 'normal'
