Thanks for the compliments, and I'll certainly consider posting in the hairdo's thread too.

I have found that sometimes just adding a few vintage details like buttons or trims to a modern garment gives the feeling without having to worry about ruining vintage garments doing housework or other strenuous activities.

Also, I like to make my own from vintage patterns so I can have the best of both worlds (even though finding good fabrics is challenging these days).

Here's what I'm wearing today:

I made the snood from a 1940's crochet pattern using vintage rayon corde (like they used for handbags back then)

The dress is another Nordstrom that I bought the same time as the blue one - very comfy and yet has a vintage feel.

I got a lot of comments from school mates: ranging from "what year is it?", "What century are you from", "Oh Sh*t, I thought you were a teacher", "why?"

wow...so many great looks here.

I don't get to dress up for work much these days - I ride my bike in every day and I'm afraid it's contributed to the downfall of any sense of style I was trying to have...sorry, this was actually a few weeks ago, the last time I had a few meetings all over town and hence was on foot and got to wear something other than cycling clothes

not vintage except the hat (ca. 1960 Knox with 2" brim). Suit is a cheap bespoke, vest is a find at a recent CSA swap of all things..I got a cool old ca. 1960s camel hair car coat there as well...currently at the cleaners.

It's basically a checked cloth, like a brush cotton. Strictly speaking, they're casual, but 'country casual' - i.e. like something you'd expect the landed gentry to wear off shooting, the sort of folks who wear a tie casually, and don't quite know what 'jeans' are.... lol I find them really handy as they go nicely for both casual (nice alternative to a lumberjack shirt with jeans sometimes), and they can work with a tie, though I tend only to pair them with tweed rather than anything else in a lounge suit. Maybe it looks a touch on the country side for the city, but for me the immediate illusion conjured up by a tweed suit is Professor Henry Jones Jr in full academic mode, which suits me just fine - albeit that I teach law rather than archaeology. lol

Looks good - puts me in mind of a mid fifties kinda semi-casual tweeds look... I think it would be worth you having the sleeves taken up a touch to really sharpen the look, but it's all nicely put together. What are the trousers? They don't appear the same shade as the jacket in the photo - is that just lighting, or are they separates rather than a suit? (Either way, looks good).
