Cardigans, cardigans, cardigans!

I haven't bought cashmere before, but I would probably buy it from JCrew. I usually find decent quality for the price and their cashmere is usually fitted like the rest of their cardigans. I'm not sure if they ship to Europe though.

JCrew, as Audrey notes is a good maker. If Banana Republic peddles the occasional cardigan (and cashmere at that), they're quality is good too.

I've also found a few from the Gap (love their cropped versions) and Old Navy. Though my favorite so far has been from Banana Republic (in a lovely cranberry color).

I don't know if anybody's mentioned this, but Marks and Spencer do some lovely cardigans at the moment. They've got round necks and little satin covered buttons, very sweet. They come in loads of colours too!

lo and behold I finally found a temporary emerald green cardigan till I can find a vintage one if it exists. lol
I have a beautiful milk glass parure that will look smashing with this though so half vintage.
Orange one is pretty also. On sale too.

Honest to betsy. I ordered that emerald green cardigan on Dec. 22 and it is still not here. They basically said if doesn't show up in 20 days they will refund my money.
What is the deal? The universe must not want me to have an emerald green cardigan. Like needle in haystack to begin with and now lost in the mail. Unreal. :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh:

I feel that way about green cardigans. There is a cute one at Anthropologie currently though it is a little springy. Looked like it ran a little small when I tried it on. (Couldn't justify the pricetag right now). BTW they had a number of very cute 50's looking cardigans on the shelves.

This one is strictly for the big gals! I received my first Land's End cardi yesterday. I was worried that it would be too long and unshapely. I've returned several cardis from plus-sized catalogs because of poor fit. Well, not only is my Land's End cardi a lovely eggplant purple (my fav) but fits great and is warm. I highly recommend the women's fine gauge cotton cardi! Several colors are on sale for $29.99 now,

The thing about Anthropologie is if you wait and are patient, generally they have a good sale (online as well). I rarely buy anything that is not on sale there becuase they have multiple lines and the sizing is all over the place. I do find though that things I bought nearly 8-10 years ago from there, I still love and they have held up. So the price becomes justified in my mind. I still buy my 1-2 season stuff at the more bargain friendly establishments. For the original price - you are right - I'd buy vintage.

I got the cashmere 3/4 sleeve Kate cardigan sweater in park green for Christmas and I am in love with it! I'm a larger size as well and have a hard time finding cardigans that are flattering. I second the vote for Lands End's cardigans for larger gals. The cashmere is a nice thick, sturdy weight that is soft as butter!

I used to work for J Crew and I owned a few of their cashmere sweaters. None of them lasted, they all fell apart. The cashmere was also very thin. I've never had good luck with their clothing - everything that I've ever purchased from J Crew for my husband and I has fallen apart. Nothing lasted. I will never buy another article of clothing from them again. It's so overpriced and they push how high quality everything is even though it's rather cheaply made. I have clothing from Target that has lasted longer than all of my J. Crew clothes.

well, my emerald green cardigan showed up today. It is very pretty but more a knit jacket and not a sweater.

I hear you The Shirt. I learned a long time ago buying quality is important. Harder to find now and one will pay for it. That is one reason I love vintage. It is usually well made but not always.
I will be sure to look for sales there. I usually do buy vintage and it is rare to buy from newer shops unless I cannot find what I am looking for.

Mostly a large with the cardigans. I do not like 3/4 sleeves either so mostly 21 or 22 inch sleeve. A 42 or 44 usually in vintage. depending how well it was taken care of.
