Lead singer/guitarist Doug Fieger was 27 when he met Sharona Alperin (who according to Sharona Alperin's site was 17 at the time, however, according to a more recent BBC article, was only 16 ) and she inspired a two-month-long run of songwriting. "It was like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat; I fell in love with her instantly."

Now playing, it's 1939 with Bud Flanagan and Chesney Allen and their Jauntily Defiant Tommy rendition of "We'll Hang Out The Washing On The Siegfried Line." A very very popular record in its day, but its day ended abruptly on the 25th of May, 1940.

Next, Fred Astaire teams with Ray Noble in 1938 for "Things Are Looking Up." The only better Astaire records than these Noble sides are the ones he did with Johnny Green, which sets a very very high standard.

It's not the best version of La Traviata, but it's eerily similar to the first performance I had ever seen.

Night Beat, with Frank Lovejoy as Randy Stone, reporter for the Chicago Star. A distraught lady asks Randy for help finding a man who was bitten by her rabid dog. City-wide consternation, and a twist ending, with an especially nice soliloquy before signing off.
