I've picked up a couple of wool ties myself on eBay; there is something pleasingly less refined about them than, say, a silk example, which lends them wonderfully to a vintage-casual look (leather jacket, collar and tie and trews, say - or tweeds). My current favourite option with tweeds is a fifties-style, wool-knit, skinny, square-ended affair. I picked up a few of those last year; they seem to have been popular at one point and another during several decades. most places seem to sell them now as a sixties thing, though I'm a fan of them paired with a more 40s/early fifties inspired look, per:


(Tie's not really that stiff, just resting on my voluminous gut...).

Pics from a year ago at this same time in March, in Yosemite Nat'l Park at the Art Deco Society's Heritage Holidays at the Ahwahnee Hotel. My deco friend took all of us and two other kids that attended to play in the snow one morning. A great time had by all!

Two shots of the front of the jacket, taken by a little cascade. This was on the way to where we played, threw snowballs, I had a pathetic attempt at building a snowman, we did a snow burial of my son Daniel, and both kids made snow angels.

hamming it up for the camera. I was sooo happy to be at this event. THE BEST! These are my first vintage purchases, specifically for this trip.

Showing the back of the jacket- pleated to take it in, and little black 40s corde' purse. My deco friend has a big smile on his face no doubt due to seeing my reaction to just being pelted by a pile of snow by a kid out of the camera shot...

Dinerman's photos are dramatic; that is, there's something more interesting about them beyond the clothing. ...this is a young man waiting for a job interview... this is a man keeping a look out while the count the loot... etc. Now, in this photo I get... FBI. He's come to a conclusion and he's about to turn to those in the room and speak his mind.

I wore a kimono that was my mothers, that had some serious stains all over when she gave it to me. I took it to a kimono craftsman who works with old kimonos. He suggested to redye the kimono by
1) covering the motif with a protective film layer,
2) then use a spray dye method and
3) spray dye first, yellow a shade deeper than the stains, then
4) spray dye light blue a shade deeper than the orginal very light blue base color.
