Spending a pleasant evening on the porch with the portable phonograph.

This is the first sunny, warm day of the season.

The first selection was Victor 25539, "Mendellsohn's Spring Song" as played by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra.

I believe I have a copy of the Six Jumping Jacks' immortal "If You Can't Land Her On the Old Veranda (You'll Never Land Her At All!)" somewhere near the bottom of the pile of platters.

78s to test out my new Philco wireless phonograph -- "Plays records right thru any radio! No wires required!" -- by:

Starting off with Shep Fields and his Rippling Rhythm in 1937, as Bobby Goday ripples a tonsil around "Now That Summer Is Gone." We haven't even had much of spring yet, but I'm not optimistic.

Next, it's 1934 with Ted Fio Rito and his Orchestra and an agreeable benediction, "Thank You For A Lovely Evening." The vocal is by Ray Hendricks, an utterly forgettable light baritone who sang to no significant impression with several very good bands in the mid-thirties, and then disappeared from public view until 1947 -- when he became the complainant in a notorious alienation-of-affection case, alleging that baseball manager Leo Durocher seduced his wife, the prim-and-proper actress Laraine Day, and ran her off to Mexico for a quickie divorce. Thank you for a lovely evening, indeed.

Used to listen to Jazz religiously ( www.jazz.fm )[/url], and Classical. Some rapp is interesting as a study. It's kind of ingenious, and the story telling is facinating.

If I'm reading or writing anything deep, I like the gregorian chant.

I'm into the Frank Sinatra Platinum now.

Starting off in 1939 with Abe Lyman and his Californians and a blaring version of "Good Morning", vocalized by Mrs Lyman herself, Rose Blane. A record better enjoyed *after* one has had one's tea.

Next, back to 1930 for Bert Lown and his Hotel Biltmore Orchestra, and Smith Ballew vocalizing the theme song for one of the more unusual movies of the year, "Under A Texas Moon." Imagine Frank Fay, the most resistable man on the screen, as a smooth, singing Cisco Kid-like caballero, romancing the fiery senorita Myrna Loy. In Technicolor, no less.

"This is actually "There she goes" from Michelle Philpps "Victim of romance" this is not the Track that appears on the 1977 Album, its much faster, with all that "Honky Tonk" Piano, the second version with the castanets, is the version on the Album, much more atmospheric, my favourite track on the album is "Trashy Rumours"

From Sonny Clay's Dixie Serenaders, a band of note in the Los Angeles area in 1931, a blues-and-tango-flavored instrumental with the rather alarming title of Cho-King.

Never play jazz with your mouth full, I guess they're telling us.

Been learning the lyrics and practicing singing a new old song in the car. The title tune from RSJO's CD, "What a Perfect Combination". Since our computer has had the DSL not working, requiring us to use a very slow dialup as an alternate- I cannot get YouTube up and working at home. So I finally went to the library yesterday to see the YouTubes of this fun tune; first with Eddie Cantor singing it in the 1932 film The Kid from Spain, and then RSJO's two videos with Frederick Hodges doing the vocal on it.

The very first time I tried singing this to the CD in my car, something very unusual for me occurred- a very fun but silly little 30s style voice and character came out of me, like a female Eddie Cantor with a bit of Betty Boop sauciness rolled into one! Too much fun...

Aw shucks, thank you Fletch! HA! If I ever get to sing it as being a vocal foil with Dr. Hodges, I'll make sure somebody catches it on video, okay? It would sure be a hoot, though... yeah, I'll just ring up RSJO's band leader Don Neely and present the idea to him...

Frederick could wear his vintage DB tuxedo and I'll wear that full length pink beaded gown with a vintage fur!
