I wasn't sure if this was the right place for this question, but it has to do with tailoring.
I have a MTM S. Cohen suit I got four years ago. As far as modern suits go, I really like it and feel like it sort of fits in with my love of 1920's style. The fabric, like many modern fabrics, is too...
Thanks! Those movies are actually my biggest inspiration and reference in my DB suit search.
Isn't it odd for a suit of this period to have a zipper fly rather than buttons?
I saw that! It's awesome! Unfortunately, the price is a bit crazy for me, and it's not a suit I'd buy without trying it on in person as it may be a bit small for me.
Nonetheless, that suit will make someone very happy.
Major respect. That is awesome.
On a general note, was recently watching some silent movies from the period and have to say I love the 1910's. The clothes are a cool halfway-point between my two favorite eras, Victorian and the 1920's. They still have some of the old-fashioned sensibilities of...

Thinking of going for this one, but I more prefer the 1930's look to 1940's. You guys think this could fit into a 1930's ensemble? I generally try to avoid the straight-up 40's "bold" look.
NICE! Love the high button stance. I'm roughly a size 40, so it would be more like a sleeping bag on me. Otherwise I'd be sorely tempted to relieve myself of $600.
One could easily walk down the street today wearing either of those outfits today and totally pull it off- except the straw boaters, though. Really wish those would come back in style. I have seen them worn in Tokyo, though; albeit that's definitely a more "fashion forward" anything goes sort of...
Recently bought this suit on Etsy. It's a sack cut, probably from the 1960's, BUT could it possibly pass as an Edwardian/early 20th C. sack suit style if I paired it with the right contrasting vest and a starched collar? Or is it too obviously from the 60's?
What do you guys think?

Thanks! I'd been the high bidder, but was on the fence. Fortunately I was outbid, so I'm just going to pass on it.
To me, something seemed weird about the lapels; they just don't look like thirties lapels.
The seller listed this suit as 1930's. The auction ends soon and I'm thinking of making a bid. It seems weird, however, that a suit from the thirties would have a zipper instead of a button fly.
What do you guys think...
I agree with Two Types! Depp's suit in the movie had more of that wide lapel 1930's look, but I actually prefer the way yours came out. Way to go!
BTW, where'd you have it made?
Also, I recently bought this book.

I've just started reading it and it seems quite good. While I don't know the first thing about tailoring, I hope...
Great thread! I personally love the late Victorian and Edwardian styles. It's unfortunately that they go so often overlooked. As someone who has a hard time choosing between those eras and the 1920s, the teens are a great middle point.
Over on another thread lounger Papperskatt and a few...
Thanks, you guys! This is one of the many reasons why I love FL; it's one of the few places where this kind of know-how's been preserved while the rest of society has relegated it to the back burner.
Hopefully I can get the collars returned and my money back. Think I'll stick with Darcy and...
Just thought I'd revisit this old thread to note that after giving Duchess Clothier more than just a cursory glance, their stuff does not look at all up to snuff. Wouldn't want to steer anyone towards them.
