I have the twin of that hat in 7 1/8. It's just a beauty, despite a few nibbles on the edge binding. It's wearing a diamond crease right now.
I've found nothing about the company either. I rather enjoy the mystery.
Thanks!
I was curious about the vintage, and it hadn't occurred to me that the tuxedo could be that recent. I certainly like the cut and fit, and was under no illusions that this was a golden-age piece, so I'm happy with the seemingly pristine jacket and trousers, whenever it was made.
I...
I had a general question about the dating and provenance of the tuxedo I purchased. Basically, I wanted to see if anybody had any info about early Blass garments like that. Mostly though, I was just throwing it into the mix to share. No big deal, really.
Vintage-y Bill Blass tuxedo
I recently picked up a Bill Blass tuxedo that looks to be from the early to mid-'70s.
I know that Bill Blass Ltd. was created in 1970, and the single-button jacket has a union label from the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, which apparently merged...
Y'know, I can only barely visualize most of the ordeal you just suffered, but having just today sewn in my very first sweatband, I have a small idea of what a hassle you went through.
The fact that the end result is so beautiful (with your classic diamond bash) is, I hope, some small payoff...
Hmmm ... According to the Centers for Disease Control, Americans have been getting taller (and fatter) over the past few generations -- at least since 1960.
"On average, both men and women gained more than 24 pounds between the early 1960s and 2002. During the same time period, mean height...
I'm really happy with this hat. I'm especially looking forward to wearing it to black tie events.
Right now it's off at the local western outfitters getting the sweatband reattached. One of the benefits of living in cowboy country is that basic hat repair services remain available.
It's an awesome hat. I love the proportions -- there's something about that 2 3/8-inch brim that seems to hit a sweet spot for me. The color is great, too. And I have no complaints about the construction or materials.
I'm pleased all around. It's hard to believe this was a budget item in its day.
Adam Envoy
An Adam Envoy acquired via ebay arrived last week just before the heavens opened and gave Arizona something on the order of 60% of our annual precipitation in one week.
The unreeded sweatband needs some stitching, and the hat had a faintly smoky smell that cleared up after a few...
I'm looking for a classic tuxedo (dinner jacket for our British friends), of good quality, in wearable condition.
I'm pretty much a 40 Regular, on the nose. Trouser-wise, I'm a 33/34 waist with a 30 inseam. I also have access to a good tailor, so anything in the ballpark is worth...
