Stetson Flagship
Just landed a Stetson Flagship in what should be a wearable almost-7 1/8 size if the seller's measurements are accurate. Looks to be in good condition, too.

Nobody tell my wife, please!
Absolutely! While most of the hats produced would be poor quality, that's always the case with the supply of anything (look at the old ads for low-cost wool fedoras). Increased demand would also drive increased production of better quality hats, lowering (eventually) prices and increasing...
Oh yes. I became a straight razor convert about five years ago. I'm using an old Heljestrand I picked up in a junk shop for twenty bucks. It takes a wicked edge and keeps going after ... I don't know how many years. It has a celluloid handle, which suggests it's pre-war.
I'm a Bay Rum guy for...
Many thanks! This really was an impulse buy, but I'm very happy with the hat. That's especially true since I had to put in some effort to get the final result.
Mario has the lowdown on naptha. I used Coleman fuel, since we have a lot of it lying around (we did a lot of camping and backpacking before my son was born, and hopefully will again, when he's older).
I used rubber gloves, outside, and agitated the hat in the pot with a paint stirrer. You...
Dobbs VVL
More on this in the Dobbs Diner, but here are before and after shots of a Dobbs VVL (Very Very Light) I picked up through pure luck, since the listing gave almost no information to go on.
Before de-scuzzification and re-dyeing of the ribbon.
And after a little work.
Dobbs VVL
So, a couple of weeks ago, I engaged in the dangerous game of bidding while under the influence, and won an old Dobbs with a sketchy description and a single photo that showed a battered hat with a faded band, but healthy-looking felt. I took a chance, won the auction, and took...
Dobbs Twenty?
There wasn't a lot of information to go on, and the photos aren't the best, so I admit I took a risk on this auction. Still, it looks like I might have won a Dobbs Twenty that needs a little reshaping but is otherwise in decent condition. (I should add that I have limited...
That's odd. I wonder if there was some sort of common hat repair product sold that produced those blotches. If so, I would guess it turned green with time, since I can't imagine the stuff being successful if it went on looking that way.
On closer examination, the green seems to be the same...
The "country" hat arrives
I recently showed off the Resistol fedora I acquired as part of my "town and country" duo. Well, after threats of legal action against the vendor and the intervention of Etsy admin, the Champ Open Road-ish hat finally arrived. I think it was worth the wait.
This...
Val,
There is a bit of green in the gray. The color listed on the tag is "spruce," so the color blend makes sense. I took to it immediately, since it's a bit warmer than a standard gray.
I just got back from an out-of-town job interview, and I decided against wearing a hat after going back and forth a few times.
The big deciders for me were the fact that it's August and I don't really have an appropriate hot-weather hat to go with my suit, and concern about "standing out"...
Many thanks!
I got my hat-bashing tips right here, on the lounge. Many thanks to all the kind folks who have shared their knowledge with us newbies, and helped us through our first efforts to do justice to a well-made lid.
