. . .in 1955 I had my first ride in a DC-3, and I distinctly remember the smell in that plane that is totally unique! Only very occasionally do I run across that smell, and still have no idea where it eminates from! Perhaps a stewardess. . .or the cleaning agent they used on the seats. Very...
Re: A-2 sizes
Kojax,
You will find a big discrepancy in sizing. . .if you are after the WWII look make sure you buy the jacket to "fit" you. . .not hang loose over your shoulders as today's jackets do. The A-2's were designed to fit snug! Of course it was easy when you were 20 years old...
Re: Favorite unit. . .
Hi Mike and all,
My favorite unit in general has got to be the 8th AAF! Specifically, the 91st Bomb Group and 324th Bomb Squadron. I do have a great affection for the Eagle Squadron, as my son is currently serving as a crew chief with the 4th F.G., 336 F.S. at...
Re: Your AAF outing. . .
J.B.,
Hey, great pictures! I am a reenactor here in the U.S. with the Airman's Preservation Society. I live in the Washington, D.C. area and we have about 40 members in our group. Check out our site at www.capitalwing.org.
It looks like your group does great...
Greetings all,
Three of us AAF reenactors are going to make a trip to Normandy next June and want to stop in East Anglia to visit a few of the old Pubs where the 8th AF crews refreshed themselves! I heard of the famous pub in Bassingbourn that still has the ceiling decorated with candle...
Re: Shoes to wear. . .
. . .The classic look of genuine low quarters with officer pants, chino khakis, and and A-2 is a classic look! I have a repro pair of jump boots I wear with my flight suit or HBT coveralls. The thing I am still looking for is an original pair of 3/4 high officer boots...
. . .Hey Paddy and all,
I carry the standard Army Air Corps ID card which has the orange border along with a picture, personal info, and a finger print. I am a rank of Captain, which I portray almost all the time in our Airman's Preservation Society shows. (when I don't get demoted to...
Re: Jackets owned
Hi all,
Although I concentrate more on flight gear and such, I do have an original Dubow A-2 along with a Werber B-3. I was also fortunate to get an original B-15 from a gunner with the 487th B.G. before he passed away. I love the B-3 but it is pretty fragile and I don't...
Re: Screen name
I use B-17 Pilot because I'm tired of driving my Dodge Intrepid around!! I've loved WWII aviation my whole life and you CAN dream can't you!!??
Best to all, Mike
. . .Greetings all - I have recently purchased 2 leather nametags to put on my A-2 jacket and I am displeased with both! While the service was great, they both are of a real light color leather. . .I want that golden-mid brown color. I know, I know I should just wait till they age! I got a...
. . .In response to wearing unit insignia and rank, I think, as someone here put it, it depends on how you handle it. I am a member of an AAF reenactment group that does airshows, reunions, etc. and I have never "been challenged." I never served in the military (had a student deferment in...
. . .Hey Baggers! I know what you mean. . .I was thinking the same thing, and am very familiar with Eastman and others. This A-2 I got is awesome, the manufacturers tag has been covered up by a re-lining but I think it is probably a Poughkeepsie or a Rough Wear. The only thing that puzzles me...
Re: Officer rank for A-2's
Hi all, New member here and glad to be a part of this! Have been an AAF nut for years and finally got my first original A-2!!! I want to get a nice set of Captain's bars to sew on the eppaulets. I know of a few outlets but wanted to open it up for any words of...
