    I love the Fed IV!!

Enjoy the Fed IV! As mentioned before, have fun shaping it. Just don't do a super-tight pinch until you are sure you want it that way. But there are lots of different shapes you can give the Fed IV and then change it. As far as size go, while open crown, mine seemed a little big. Once I gave...

    Jaxon Hats

I don't have their crushable C crown, but I do have their Diamond Crown (wool), the Detroit (fur), and the Rudeboy/Frank (fur). The Diamond Crown is basically a porkpie and is fine for a wool hat. It's quite comfortable and I wear it as a beater. Plus it was very inexpensive. For some...

    Hawaiian shirts and fedoras

Recently, we had a few days of high 80s (F) and very low humidity. Perfect for a fedora and a Hawaiian shirt.

Uh, my first attempt at creasing a Fed IV is LAME!

I like a hand-creased hat. Yours looked pretty good to start, but now looks quite nice. I first creased my Fed IV dry, then with steam, then one night after a few beers I used a spray bottle. I liked it quite well. Then one day about a month ago, I was cleaning the gutters and decided to...

    It's Derby Day in Kentucky

I have the black Hampton, but I don't have any decent head-shots yet. Here's a shot I took when it arrived. I've since taken the feather out.

    It's Derby Day in Kentucky

I watched bits of the ALL DAY coverage here and saw some nice Panama hats, some nice fur felt, more than a few large westerns, some crazy horse shoe and feather festooned monstrosities, and plenty of hipster plaid stingies. Eventually, the the sun appeared and a horse race broke out. :D I...

    Oxblood Hats...

Man, that is a beautiful color. I used to have a pair of oxblood Dr. Martin boots. I loved those boots. So that color has a special place in my heart. :)

    Homburg Nation

My first Homburg. It's a Francato Cappello and it's a little battered but not abused. It seems that it mostly just needs a little re-shaping. The ribbon has faded on one side, but I really like it. To me it has that "well-dressed vagabond" look. :)

To Feather or Not to Feather?

My vintage Dobbs Royal Coachman had a small red and black feather when it arrived and I've left it in. Otherwise, I go featherless.

questions about Panama Bob's Cuenca Caballero

I hope my comments didn't come across as complaints. Shaping a new hat is part of the fun for me and I'm very pleased with mine. I was just surprised and amused at what mine did when I put it on. As CRH said, a little water and steam allowed me to "tame" my Cuenca just fine. Now, if the...

questions about Panama Bob's Cuenca Caballero

So very true CRH. I think we should have taken before pictures to show what the brim can do when you first put one on. :) Mine went crazy.
