    Brown Shoes with Gray Suit?

Based on the picture, I would vote black.

    Book Repair

Sometimes cleaning or repairing books can do more damage. In those cases, whe will usually make some kind of container for the book. I aksed her about the freezer thing. She said that institutions will use special freezers to do that, but that a home freezer won't really do the job because it...

    Book Repair

So, I've got a friend who does book repair and I have had her redo the bindings on a bunch of my books because even though they were vintage, I feel like being able to read them without them coming apart is more important than the fact that they look old. A couple had what looked like mold...

    Just a random poem

:offtopic: I'm confused. The last poetry thread a week or so ago was closed with this message from Hemingway Jones: The poetry thread isn't really right for the Lounge. Sorry. We're keeping things at least somewhat vintage related. Thanks for your understanding. I am sure there are...

    Wanna Meet a Lounger?

I hope I will get the chance to meet Retrogirl1941 tomorrow. She is in town, but I don't know that we will get our schedules to match up.

    Team USA's Olympic Parade Suit

The U.S. team looked like the staff from a Caribbean resort at the opening ceremonies. They are athletes. If there were ever a place where tracksuits were warranted, then this is it.

    The "Two Martini Lunch"

It also makes me wonder if any good ones were made. Maybe someone got the courage to tell a boss he was making a bad mistake with the latest decision, or someone got the courage to take a risk that paid off, or someone was able to relax and come up with a new idea.

Did I just invent a drink?

Dios Mio -- maybe Tequilla with Amaretto? Horse's Head -- maybe add some cherries or something else red to go with it? Maybe we should just start with the names and create a Fedora Lounge Cocktail menu. We can start with The DHermann -- Bacardi Light Rum and Disaronno.

Some bad news (now getting better!)

Art, It may be easy for us to say, but don't panic. As Indycop's story shows, sometimes things are not always what they seem. But you never know, you may have torn a muscle cutting up trees or you may have an alien in your chest trying to get out. So keep working with the doctors, and...

Did I just invent a drink?

Enjoy your drinky-poo. Whatever words you need to use to lure yourself into having a drink is your business. All the same, I think you have come up with another variation in the Godfather family. A godfather is scotch and amaretto. A godmother is vodka and amaretto. Maybe this is the...

    Do you have a crush?

Pilotguy299, this is the best advice you are going to get on this topic. It sounds like she is using your crush to feed her ego. Move on, you don't need a "friend" like that. She will move on once she finds someone else to fill the need.

    Manhattans

Bourbon infused with a cigar has an interesting smoothness, but it is an acquired taste, and one is about my limit.

    Manhattans

Satin Manhattan I like the regular ones just fine, but I also like this recipe from Dale DeGroff: Satin Manhattan: 1 1/2 oz. of scotch (I usually substitute Maker's mark, myself) 1/2 ounce of Vanilla Liquor (i like Navan, myself) 2 dashes bitters (right now I use my own homemade bitters) I...

    Golden Era hotels in Chicago

No need to apologize, it's good to bring some things up again so that the latest information gets out there. Does this mean you are planning to be in Chicago overnight during your road trip?

    Golden Era hotels in Chicago

Take a look at these. I think they fit in your price range and are more in the city. But you might have to add a little for parking: http://www.cityinns.com/ I have stayed at the Willows and had wedding guest stay there. It was a nice place, just not a ton of amenities. Though I guess that...

A Golden Era Cocktail: The Sidecar

I'll chime in and say the Trader Vic's Guide is great, especially the sections on patrons bar tenders love and hate. The only drawback is occasionally the ingredients are hard to find. However, Imbibe magazine often has recipes and sources for hard to find ingredients.

    Classy bars...

The new phone booth, you could even use the old signs. That is a great idea! Apply for a method patent now.
