Some suggestion it may go to 58 cents USD

Having worked in these markets for 30 years I can say that there is some probability that the Aussie dollar will decline somewhat from where it is, but the central banks are likely to intervene and it could easily go the other way. When it does, it will rise quickly. Markets are hard to predict, but currencies are really hard since the central banks are not return maximizers. That is, they're the biggest player and making a profit is not their goal.

So timing our Akubra purchases is like trying to time the market. Its fun, but don't take it too seriously. They're cheap now. They may get cheaper, but then again . . .

Swing and a miss...

No luck on the Bluegrass Green Campdraft :eusa_doh: . Everythingaustralian.com sent me an email saying they could no longer get the Black, Moonstone and Bluegrass Green colors. Current choices are Mid Brown, Tawny Fawn, and Silver Belly. I opted for the Tawny Fawn, as I already have Resistol OR clone in silver, and a Stylepark in a deep chocolate color. I'm still excited about finally getting my hands on an Aukubra!:D

AKUBRA SWING, that is...CAME in today's post! ... and wow is it BLUE!
Gonna take the steam to it and teardrop it, remove the feather & maybe Mrs. Blaine won't say "PIMP" the next time she sees it. I'll follow-up w/ photos as able. Two weeks from shipment to receipt, not as fast as Hatsdirect but not too bad.

Stylemaster sizing

Anyone have experience with the sizing of the Stylemaster? Do they run true? On the large size like some other Akubras?

I'm between a 7 1/4 and 7 3/8, and LO - so I am leaning towards the 59, but I am hedging on the size. Any suggestions? I have other Akubras, all size 58 - and 2 of the three are tight on the forehead; the third fits well in size 58. I'm stumped.

I had a Stylemaster that seemed to fit well at 61cm. However, my Pastoralist, Campdraft, and Federation all needed sizing strips. It's always better to go a size larger than get one that's too small.

BTW, Has anyone else had problems getting a response from EverythingAustralian? I've tried several times to contact them via email over the last 3-4 weeks and received 0 responses. My email works just fine so I'm wondering if they're just incredibly slow.

I emailed for 2 things and both took a few days to get a response but I did get one.

I've emailed them a few times and it always takes a few days to get a response. In one of the recent emails, Sam commented to me that the drop in the Australian dollar had been good for business, so perhaps he's just really busy?

Something I hadn't considered

I ordered an Akubra stylemaster online from EverythingAustralian.com.au on Sunday, and early this morning in my Email inbox I got a note from Adam at Everything Australian saying my card hadn't gone through! I was pretty surprised, but they were quite nice and suggested I miight have gotten the "expiry date" wrong...so I sent a response with the correct date and that was that....I thought.

Then my wife called me at work to tell me the bank had called her to let us know that they had put a "freeze" on our card pending confirmation that there was somebody in Australia trying to make a charge on it. Of course, she let them know it was legit! When I got home from work today there was no further word from Everything Australian.

In a way, it's nice to know our bank was that proactive in trying to prevent what they called an "overseas phone charge" from occuring without our consent, :eusa_clap but I hate to think this might delay my hat :eusa_doh: .

So, if you don't routinely make "overseas charges", when you order your Akubra you might want to let your bank know that you are going to make an internet purchase in Australia AHEAD of time, so there is no delay.

I e-mailed them on Sunday to make a change to an order I had placed and got a response today. As a matter of fact, I got two responses. Ron at Hatsdirect has told me that he has had trouble getting e-mail through to me several times and has had to use a different e-mail address (one of his) to get a response through to me.

I tried to call Everything Australian last night at the number listed on their web site and received a recording saying the number was not in service.

Fed Deluxe!

Got my Federation Deluxe from hatsdirect today. Great service from those folks again.

As you can see, I bought my Fed in black. I don't want the Indy look, really, but I thought this hat was a bargain. I wanted a traditional black hat that I could wear with heavy winter clothes. This hat fits the bill.

As with all Akubras, in my experience, the felt is a little thicker and a little stiffer than I would prefer. Still, it's quite nice. The sweat band and liner are lovely. The proportions are big overall, but I like it. I think I can handle the big brim. I did bash it down pretty hard, to take a little height off. It's about 4.5 inches tall now. Remember, this is the last generation Federation- a little larger than the current model.

As soon as I got the hat, I gave it a bath. That let me long-ovalize it a bit, and made the bashing easier. I'm wearing it tonight as the drying continues, to help it conform to my head. When it's all dry, I suspect it will be much like my Campdraft- a little less long oval than perfect for me, but pretty comfortable. It'll get better as I wear it and sweat in it.

Nice hat overall. Until that damn Stetson Nostalgia becomes available, I don't think there's another production hat I would be this happy with at this price point (about $150, shipped).

This one is sorta thin, reminds me alot of the Lee Adventure, w/o the brim binding. The brim has a nice steep dimensional cut & once teardropped I hope less taper to the crown. I'll work on a self portrait once I get it "fixed up right". :D

Looking forward to seeing it!

From the shot you posted it kinda reminds me of 'THE HARVESTER' that Mike Moore made for me. [maybe not as tall in the crown]

Looks nice, Ande. You did bash it down quite a bit, but it looks good. If you don't have a Fed Deluxe, I think you'll like it. I have one and am expecting another any day.

Yeah, characteristic of most of the Akubras I've seen (save the Federation) the Swing does have a somewhat lower crown than many of us who are accustomed to Vintage prefer. Wow, that Harvester is sweet!

Glad to see another non-Indy Federation.

My Fed is on the way- now I'm already thinking about another Akubra(I just made an eBay sale so my PayPal account is flush...) and I was wondering what some of y'all would suggest. The Campdraft seems very popular- is it much the same as an O.R.? Sure looks like it! I would appreciate any input.

My understanding is that the Campdraft used to be the Open Road, and was sold by Stetson but made by Akubra. So a Campdraft is more like a vintage Open Road than a new Open Road is though everyone seems to agree that they're still not as good as a vintage one.

I have a new one, and it is a very nice hat. Especially for the money.
