If you've got a quick jacket question and don't see a thread for it, just post it here. Whether the question is about fit, design, patterns, choice of leather, makers, hardware etc,. this is the place.
Hi, I’m not sure if this is the right place for an Aero Original Hercules question but here goes. Does anyone know why some pictures of this jacket I’ve seen on the web have the side adjustment cinches quite a way up the back like a half belt when others (including on the Aero made to measure section of their website) have them right at the bottom? Is it just a customer option or has the design changed?

Many thanks.

I have no clue but I went into Aero's site to confirm it:

Original Hercules, Jerky: Seal, 42" - S#6855

Certainly the jacket's description states "This jacket’s side adjusters are closer to the hem and can be cinched in or out to achieve a more relaxed/fitted look around the hips", so perhaps the higher ones were special requests?

How do you guys view action backs with dead elastic?
If it's not effecting the fit ( won't know till I receive it ) would you just wear the jacket as is, or would it bother you to know it's like this and obvious to others like you who'd notice ?

I keep seeing recommendations to repair jackets at home, but not everybody has a sewing machine or really knows how to sew.

I can saddle stitch to make holsters and knife sheaths, but that's about the extent of my skillset.

If anybody has done this repair at home, could they give me an objective assessment of the difficulty ?
I know you have to undo the lining at the top, but how far to be able to get my hands in there and where exacly are the ends of the elastic sewn to ?

You do not need a sewing machine for those repairs. In the leather, the thread holes are already there. New elastic does make the jacket better. Personally, If the back elastic is not working as it should, I often leave it alone. I do have several machines that would do the job just fine, but sometimes It is not necessary.

The original has them near the hem but I guess some people prefer and thus request them to be at belt level.

Yes it must be that I reckon, I had one of these some years ago and they were definitely at hem level, thanks for looking.

Hi all,
I'm a newbie here, this is my first post.
I'm looking to replace my Schott which I ad for 12 years and I want to find some good deal online.
I would like your input on the right sizing. My measurements:
* shoulders: 19.5 in
* chest 43 in
* arm 25 in

I'm looking at one of these jackets:
* Aero Leathers Vincent (or something similar e.g. Double Helix innovator)
* Aero Leathers Highwayman
* Aero Leather Hercules
* AL Half Belt

What sizes would you recommend?
Thank you in advance,
ML

I recently did it on 2 jackets, linked below. It’s not necessary, but it can help tuck in the leather panel in the back, if it sticks out too much. The front drapes a bit better too. The difficulty is easier than, or about the same as, sewing in a button.

Your jacket was relatively cheap, you should wear it as is if it has no big issues. I wouldn’t spend money on it until it starts falling apart and you like it a lot still at that point. It may end up not being your style, and you may want to sell it to recoup, upon which the cheaper you spent on it, the easier it is to sell.

I will definitely be assessing the jacket and my general thoughts on it when it arrives before deciding what to do.

Has anyone ever tried or heard of anyone removing a pigment finish to make it more of an aniline/semi aniline to be able to show more grain and character/patina? I Wasn’t sure if it was even possible without destroying a jacket or not haha. just a curiosity.

How well do women's jackets move on the exchange here ?

I have a nice old Brooks cafe racer that learned me about darts ( I watch out for them now) and will list it here fairly cheap if there's actually a market, otherwise it's going to goodwill since neither of my sisters or my niece are small enough for it.

The market here isn't good here for ladies jackets IMO.

That said, im looking for something for my daughter.What's the size/measurements?

I'd have to take measurements when I get home, but aside from the darts it's basically a well fitting mens 36.

I agree I don't think there's much movement for women's stuff here. I only recall a Classifieds post for ladies, which was someone selling his wife's designer bags.

This said, I'm thinking about getting something for my girlfriend and I'm still not sure if/what to get. Plus she would probably need something thinner, with good mobility, that doesn't feel like armor.

Get measurements. My daughter would need a 34/36 men's with a 20-21 inch sleeve length. Probably a very uncommon measurement, though I haven't investigated things of that size yet.

I must be sneaky about it, if I get it, it would be as a gift :p
