Hi,

found this jacket and I'm curious about it because I've never seen a steerhide J-100.
Does anyone have any more info about the jacket? Especially cut-wise compared to the current BJ19110

Does anybody know if there is any logic to Aero updating ready to wear jackets? As in do they do it every month, every quarter, etc? Or is it simply just whenever they have one available for sale online they just add it?

Why is it that so many jackets are sized incorrectly from the mfg? I've seen it w/ several mfgs, most recent were several examples from Aero that are clearly way off and the Thurlow site has several examples that are mislabeled in terms of size, sometimes by two sizes... like a jacket labeled a 40 will fit like a 44.

I've never noticed that to be common in any other industry. Why should it be common in leather jackets?

In a nod to the above poster, I recently picked up a tag size 46 (real size 40) aero m422a jacket secondhand, and I love everything about it except the smell. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s goatskin, but the whole thing smells like a bag of beef jerky. It has none of the acridity of cigarette smoke or the dampness of mildew and lacks both telltale signs (tar stains or mold).

I’m wondering how I may rid myself of this turbulent priest smell. Other posts I’ve seen say that it could be the smell of camel or it’s because it’s low quality — I’m hoping that’s not the case with Aero.

I use this stuff on boots and sometimes just to air out my wife's truck as she works and trains a Dobermann and a working dog can make the inside of an SUV smell uh, suboptimal. Ozone though removes 100% of that, truly.

How to do it? In your case I would hang the jacket in the truck (or car, whatever), turn on the fan so air is circulating (no heat or A/C necessary), roll up the windows, fire up the truck and let the ozone bomb go then shut the door. Don't sniff that stuff. Leave it run for ten minutes and then open the door, hold your breath and roll down all the windows all the way.while leaving the air on full tilt.

If it's a smell that's on the leather the ozone will remove it. If instead it's the leather that stinks... well, you're stuck.

I'd usually say something about testing it first but in the case of ozone there really isn't much way to test... once you pull the pin on that bomb you're all in and the gamble will pay off or not. I've never had a bad result but I'm sure that someday someone will. Good luck!

I’m looking at a vintage (leather) jacket but struggling with the measurements. I’m a 43 chest, this is 25 inches p2p…. Is that going to just be insanely oversized?

Most of my others are around 22.5-23.5 p2p, and vary between what I’d call an easy t-shirt fit and comfortably trim in a proper shirt. None of them really allow for layering, so I’d quite like something more relaxed in the rotation. I have a heavy waxed cotton jacket that’s 25.5 or so and does allow for layering and looks good, but I’m not sure if that will translate here.

It will be big unless it’s an A-2 or something like that. 25 is a 50 chest as you know.

Trying to talk myself into a bad decision, I think. So annoying it’s not a little smaller!
Take it from a guy who has tried to go up or down, it just ends up being a bad decision just about 99% of the time, but of course, there is always an exception. But from a 43 to a 50, I have to say, that would usually have an unsatisfying ending.

Why did jacket makers make the armpit so low on certain models? This is a sam walker barnstormer i got to see if id like the aero origional on the assumption thay it was a true replication. But then i lifted my arm and am confused why any designer would choose this fate for the wearer. This coat weighs 9 pounds 10 oz, putting my arm up lifts fully half that weight up on my extended arm, making it feel like im doing a lateralnraise in a gym. Was it because suites of the era had heavy shoulder pads so they needed the arm hole to be taller?

Im hesitant to get the aero version now because this was a bit of a straight jacket.

I know its subjective- but which would you prefer and why?

Zippered sleeves versus Button cuff sleeve on a single rider jacket for everyday casual (non riding ) usage. Any pros and cons other than pure aesthetics?

The Barnstormer was not designed for active wear. If you look for a jacket to be active in rather than walk around, arms on your side and look smooth, look elsewhere..

Zip cuffs; if unzipped they are usually wider than unbuttoned cuffs, so it is easier to slide my wrists with wrist watch on into them and they are faster to operate. Undoing and doing cuff buttons every time I put on a jacket is annoying to me, but necessary if you wear a moderately sized watch.

Question for you Aero experts. A late night (after a couple drinks) min bid on a jacket won out, and I got this without knowing much about Aero jackets, lol. Is it a Highwayman with a solid back? And I assume it’s Horween black chromexcel that has developed a fair amount of brownish patina? Either way, I like the fit and the leather and can’t wait for cold weather!

It is a modified HWM, but not sure about the leather. Hard to tell from a few pics, but not what broken in CXL usually looks like - undertones look more greyish than the warm brown that usually pops through with wear. Could also be one of their other offerings..
