Autosuggestion; the medium for influencing the subconscious mind

Autosuggestion is the term applied to all suggestions and all self administered stimuli which reach one's mind through the five senses. Autosuggestion is self suggestion.

It is the agency of communication between that part of the mind where conscious thought takes place, and that which serves as the seat of action for the subconscious mind.

How important is autosuggestion to you and how you deal with life?

Is this like when I have to let the Dr. do something unpleasant, and I tell myself I have been captured by the Nazis, and I have to tough it out through their evil torture techniques?

Actually, through the dominating thoughts which one permits to remain in the conscious mind, (whether these thoughts be negative or positive is immaterial), the principle of autosuggestion voluntarily reaches the subconscious mind and influences it with these thoughts.

If it's unpleasant it could be so only because you think it's unpleasant.:D

Autosuggestion doesn't work for everybody. I, for instance, am just too smart to be fooled by a botcher like me, and that's basically the definition of autosuggestion, isn't it?

But then again, I'm not - no wait, politics has been banned. ;)

I'm awfully stubborn and I'm rarely able to convince myself to change my mind once I've made it up. Because of that I've gotten into terrible arguments with myself from time to time, and sometimes they've been so severe I've gone for weeks without speaking to myself. But usually I work things out and smooth things over and am able to get back on good terms with me.

I've noticed that if I read or watch negative material, it affects me. So I make it a point to read and watch things that are positive and inspiring.

Quite actually...

"Auto Suggestion" is the very essence of prayer - or affirmative prayer. As prayer, it is termed Spiritual Mind Treatment. It is based on the spiritual principle, "It is done unto you as you believe". It really has nothing to do with convincing oneself, but more about changing one's thinking and beliefs. It is faith in action.

Any objective manifestation was once a thought (a pencil for instance; read Leonard E. Read's essay, "I Pencil"). That thought and the belief about it's reality and imaging of that thought as reality and as already made manifest is the impetus that acts on Subjective Mind (the subconscious, if you will). And that is the connection to the infinite. It is a prayer to the Infinite Mind and Intelligence of the Universe (God, if you please).

That thought, belief, image is the creative process which separates man from beast and, recognized or unrecognized, it is the progenitor of all of our manifest 'things'. Thoughts themselves are things.

This is 'the thing itself' and is what we spiritual beings use to create while we play on this mortal coil. Learning that, understanding that, and using that is quite literally, the Science of Mind. It works for good or for evil - whatever we choose. Learning the difference and using it thusly may well be the very reason we are here in the first place.

Do you also argue with yourself? [huh] Or are you always in agreement?[huh]

I never argue with myself. I'm either arguing with the voices in my head or with that 10 foot purple polar bear that hangs around my apartment.:p :p :p

That means you are a deep thinker. I bet a lot of us talk to ourselves.

Goody, now I know what to say when I'm caught doing it.

That only works if they don't hear the drivel you're saying.

-to myself- "Yeah, I could fit that stack of Oreos in my mouth..."

"Were you just talking to yourself Matt?"

"Uh, yeah. I'm a deep thinker."

"Sure ya are.... Oreo-master." :D

Paisley is on the right track

Everyone's posts have been great.:eusa_clap We're all starting to think about our subconscious self.

Nature has so built man that he has absolute control over the material which reaches his subconscious mind, through his five senses, although this is not meant to be construed as a statement that man always exercises this control. In a great majority of instances, he does not exercise it, which Shaul touched upon.;)

The subconscious mind could resemble a fertile garden spot, in which weeds will grow in abundance, if the seeds of more desireable crops are not sown therein.

Autosugesstion is the agency of control through which an individual may voluntarily feed his subconscious mind on thoughts of creative nature, or by neglect, permit thoughts of a destructive nature to find their way into this rich garden of the mind.

What do each of us allow into our minds and how does this contribute to our individual lives?

Thanks, Lincsong!

The media we consume really do affect us. Just a few weeks ago, I watched John Stossel talk about how stereotypes affect us. In one segment, he said that researchers found that if young women watched a movie about a ditzy girl (I think it was the movie Legally Blond), they did worse on a test afterwards than women who didn't. Who wants to be Dumb and Dumber?

I think even more important is the friends and coworkers we choose. One reason I like my job so much is the positive people. It feels good to work around winners who are secure and want to build me up, not tear me down. In contrast, I've watched people I love tear themselves apart by nursing old grievances. They dragged me down, too, until I ended the relationships. A couple of years ago, a mildly negative old friend sought to get in touch with me, but a couple of wise old friends I consulted advised against it. They were right.

I try to accentuate the positive.

But in a world of sensory overload it is an uphill battle.
This is why I avoid most television, I don't like the commercials and the negative messages they send. A lot of the shows aren't much better. :(
