Bugs, eggs in hat boxes?

I got a question from a fella looking at one of my auction hats, and I'm not sure of the answer:

"I purchased two fedoras from a seller who is not near as honest as you. They are ate up with moth bites. My question: Can I use the box? I don't know if moth larvae can remain alive in the box? I don't want to contaminate my other hats! The hats are worthless, so I guess I purchased a nice box and a couple of feathers. Again, when you get the time I would appreciate any light you might shed on moths. Thank you."

The concern may be less about moths (since they lay their eyes on the hats, not the hat boxes), and more about silverfish. I know nothing of their life cycle.

Whaddaya think?
