Saw this on Scifi.com, and since so many of us are Bond fans, thought I'd pass it along.

MGM has announced that Casino Royale is the title of the next Bond movie, due out next year. No official word on a new actor for the series.

I think is is a ploy to get Brosnan back, though if it were up to me I would go with Ewan McGregor or Jude Law as Bond.

Heavy leaning toward Ewan McGregor. Like Connery when he was new, Bond was young and didn't have technology to get him out of every jam.

I agree, I've long thought McGregor would make a good "Connery-style" Bond. Probably better than Law.

Last I heard, though, they're still looking for an unknown actor.

Rumor was that it was Brosnan that decided he was not going to do anymore Bond films because he was jaded by the fact that the character had become a vehicle for the special effects and not the other way around. Tarantino was talking about going back to the 60's with the franchise and having Brosnan play a more mentally agile bond in the vein of Connery's version.

Too bad they've decided to title it 'Casino Royale'...nothing can top the 1967 original. It sorta defined the swingin' late-60s whereas the new one will most likely be a bit generic-Bond (SSDA: Same Sh*t, Different Actor). A lot of Bond fans don't consider the orginal to be a 'Bond' film (probably because it was a comedy), but I certainly do. Plus...nothing can top that Burt Bacharach/Herb Alpert soundtrack.

"Casino Royale" Reminds me of the episode of Star Trek:TNG

...the episode was called "Casino Royale" too, and I think that the characters in that episode got into period costume of the 1920's, complete with fedoras. :)

I'm new here. but having read all the original Fleming novels, I wouldn't mind seeing some period films as well. I always thought the novels clearly outclassed any of the movies made from them.

Now the news media is reporting that Brosnan WILL be back as 007 at least one more time. I wish the studio would just make an announcement and let us know who the hell it's going to be. All of this speculation is driving me bananas.

(That said, I feel it necessary to make known the fact that I think casting anyone with too much "cinema baggage" would be a mistake. This includes most of the people who have been championed as "the next Bond"; Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, Hugh Jackman. . .cast too familiar a face, and all of a sudden, it ain't Bond, it becomes something else. Cubby Broccoli realized this when he cast George Lazenby, one of my favorites.)
