There's no need for any junior-high level pranking. If someone parks a car on your lawn and doesn't move it when asked nicely, just call the nearest garage, have them tow it away, and send the neighbors the bill and the address where they can pick it up. All perfectly legal, and you maintain your dignity at the same time.

I've lived on a street with drug dealers on either side of me. The worst thing you can do is get into an "I'm badder than you are" contest. Because you *aren't* badder than they are. (One of the dealers was eventually arrested for killing a fellow dealer and throwing him into a water filled quarry with a couple of wheel rims tied around his neck.)

one has to have a "no parking tow away zone" posted for at least 24 hours before having cars towed, this I learned at my old place. w/o the sign, no company will tow the car

you're right getting into a contest w/ types like this is NOT a good idea. but you can't bring people up to your level, sometimes you have to lower yourself to theirs before they get the idea

edit: btw, they've been there for 2 weeks now and the fun stuff started last thursday. one week!!!

dear new neighbor

I guess it isn't such a bad thing that you'd like to use the clothesline in my back yard, that really doesn't hurt anything, but it would be nice if you had asked first. and last night when I got home you immediately took your clothes in when you saw me, which clearly says you know you were in the wrong. it just disappoints me that you got your clothes before I could turn the sprinkler on full blast right underneath.

ruin my fun! :rage:

sincerely

ps I do hope that truck full of mattresses parked at your back door this a m contains your belongings, to be taken to another location. I'll check when I get home, and set up the lawn chairs and grab some popcorn and enjoy the show!

The way things are going, you might already have some lawn chairs and popcorn strewn about your yard when you get back...

I would advise against this. These kind of people never get the idea. You need to get the law quickly on your side. Document everything that is happening and start complaining to your landlord, their landlord, any and every applicable town/city department. Flood 'em with whatever complaints you can. If you have a cellphone with a camera, use it.
When you are at work ask a compassionate neighbor to keep an eye out, snap a picture, call you if something is up, etc.

absolutely. if the have no regard to legal or illegal, sure they may cause themselves legal problems but what they may do can still cause you a lot of agony. this trick does work with my ex, however lol

cameras are my friend for sure. have pix of the car in my yard and the couch already, and my landlady lives a block and a half away

Ahh, but remember the First Rule of Fight Club? Haydukery works the same way... if I had actually done anything beyond academic study, no way in Hell would I admit to it.

I've seen many would-be dirty tricksters get caught out because they got too cocky, too smug, too self-satisfied and couldn't resist the urge to brag--"loose lips sink ships" and all that.

Which reminds me of a scene in Layer Cake when Colm Meaney tells Daniel Craig, "Listen, if you have to kill someone, never ever tell a living soul."

I'm on board with you Diamondback; had I ever gone outside of hypothetical debate and exacted the necessary revenge on someone most deserving, I certainly wouldn't make the facts public. ;)

I don't understand this. If a car is parked on your property, your lawn, driveway, etc. Why do you need to post a tow away zone sign?
In practice you treat the car like it is your vehicle (it is on your property) and have it towed. Why do you need to alert yourself?

So you put up the 'no parking violators will be towed' sign yesterday afternoon right ? ;)

not yet, I didn't have time after work to go to the towing company and get one. since she hasn't done it since, I may not need to worry about it

Oh yes, you do. Never second guess yourself. You may as well leave the sign posted until these yahoos move. Along with other signs like, "Owner of this house is insured by Smith&Wesson, carries under $10 in cash, and has a stockpile of ammunition - locked and loaded."

My permit-to-carry instructor once suggested we tape up our shooting targets if we were in a bad neighborhood, or had troublesome neighbors. Then again, they say the baboon, when confronted, will not back down. [huh]

I just wanted to interrupt and say i'm really feeling for you hon, i had terrible trouble with my old neighbour, highlights include throwing cans and bottles into my garden, ditto dog poop, porn mags, dirty nappies, occupying my parking space, poisoning a dog i was looking after for a friend (the dog was ok luckily, and i could never prove it, but i knew it was those buggers), general abusive language across the garden fence, oh the list is endless.

I did try and reason with them, be polite, turn the other cheek, but in the end i just kept a record of what they did, and hassled the local authorities until they did something about it. I was lucky that they were living in a council owned property and so eventually with the help of the neighbours on the other side pitching in and complaining to the council with me we managed to get them out.

I have to say i did retaliate once and burned their lawn , shaping the words b******s into it, no mean feat in the dead of night crawling on your belly with a jerry can into next door, i didn't feel bad about that (i abhor animal cruelty and that was after the poisoning incident and the fact i found rat poison on my bird table) and i did own up to the council about it, but they were surprisingly sympathetic, but then compared to the reign of terror i had to go through and considering that was the only misdemeanour i committed i didn't think it would have done too much harm to my case. I'm not advocating any retaliation on your part at all, but just that i understand what you're going through lady and i wish an end to all this toot sweet for you and your families sake!

that is awful, and I'm with you on the whole cruelty to animals thing. you rock I don't think I'd have the guts to burn anyone's lawn, and not now since the dog fertilized it lol

the random trash happens too, from over flowing garbage cans mostly left by the now-evicted previous neighbors, but they were nice enough. I thnk they were getting too noisy and got booted. yes they were noisy but I can deal w/ that. loud music is better than this garbage

Hi Sofia

You should have arranged the dog doddie into the correct wording, it turns that part of the yard bright green and lasts a LONG LONG time.

While all this revenge and so forth sounds nice....

Since you are siccing the police etc on them...you really do not want to have done anything even remotely unlawful towards them....lest it become a 'well she did this...' fight between them you and each side trying to get the police to pick their side of the story.

Yes, it might take longer to approach it all without guns or weapons or smearing excrement on someone elses property.....but at least you won't find yourself in the jail cell next to theirs...when they decide to press charges.
^Sound advice.
You don't want to be "part of the problem" in the eyes of any authority; police, the courts.

Documentation is always good to have on hand, start if you haven't already!
This coming from someone who used to take matters into his own hands. - never works out like you thought it would.
