Lucky Talisman

I carried a rabbit's foot for luck for many years, then someone pointed out how un-lucky it was for the rabbit, I quit carrying it after that. No problems or bad luck, since then.

I wonder how that rabbit's foot for good luck got started? Will have to research it on the net.

When I was in San Diego, a lot of New Age folks would carry medicine or totem bags that could be filled with things that protect: an herb, a stone, a shell, or a small piece of one's animal totem, e.g. a coyote tooth or claw if one had a coyote as his or her totem. Or even a lucky coin or something given to the wearer by another person.

This was all taken from Native American practices, of course, and modified somewhat.

I have a totem bag somewhere, which I wore when I worked in The County of San Diego, felt I needed protection from county supervisors.

Ah see...that depends to. From what I recall there are family customs where in wolves, hounds and what not are heard by the family at the death of a member. Either just before or right after. Generally though it's the family animal or totem as it were. So a bird, mammal, etc.

Perhaps the Banshee is just associated with your family more so them most?

My mother's family claim to have seen one. Years ago, when my mother was a child, they were out in the car, when suddenly my grandfather stamped on thed brakes because the car in front had stopped suddenly. Then the driver in front, a woman, screamed. They all of them in the car say that they saw a tiny little woman, who had obviously just run out of the hedge, shaking her fist at them - then she disappeared into the hedge on the other side. Jet black hair, very pale, black or navy apron over a black or navy dress (I forget which way round those colours go, I must ask). They all give exactly the same description, down to the hateful, angry look on the banshee's face. Since then, my grandmother has heard them when someone is going to die in the family. She's the only one that has had this that I know of, though my mother was apparently with her one night when she heard it and on that one occasion also heard it. As I say, this is not the norm - you're only supposed to hear the banshee when it's your turn to go - so this encounter must be the reason. [huh]

They're all rationale people and I have no reason to doubt them... "There are more things in heaven and on Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy, Horation" and all that.

I have a little silver beetle, that is supposed to be for luck in some culture. I probably should know which culture, but I don't. I picked it up about four years ago, and have carried it in the zippered compartment of my wallet ever since.
When I was a kid, I had a purple lucky rabbit's foot that I carried with me every where I went.
Whenever I go to a casino, I bring with my a lucky $5 chip. The day I got this chip I won over $4,000 playing slot machines. So now, whenever I play the slots, I hold this supposed lucky $5 chip in my hand or have it in my pocket. I haven't had any really substantial payouts since my $4,000 day, but I'm still hoping. Last year while on a Caribbean cruise I found a lucky slot machine that I kept winning on a few hundred dollars at a time. One payout was $500 and the biggest payout was $950. By the end of the trip, I had a nice wad of cash in my wallet. I like to play black jack as well, but haven't had much luck at it, and will only play the $5 tables, which can be hard to come by. Either way, I always play with my lucky Foxwoods $5 chip in hand or pocket.
