All excited! This hat was made by Johnny Tyus, the hatter who taught Graham Thompson to make hats.

It is a little dirty, but I think it will clean right up. I love it. The Cavanagh edge, the color, the felt, and the proportions look exactly like those of the Knox 100 I bought recently. I hope it feels the same.

I wanna do this!!!
I hooked into my first steelhead while I was spinner fishing for trout... Dad's old trout rod, 6 ib. test and a fairly angry, flying, 8-10 lb. steelhead hen. Unbelievable. July 7, 1994... on Mom's birthday about 14 months after she passed away. Man, after that I was hooked.

This 3rd pic is actually an early spring Chinook (King) salmon.

If that's a 7 1/4 I don't want to know !

The dimensions she told me when I messaged her were close to 7-1/4, though her numbers changed a couple times when I asked her to remeasure to verify the dimensions. She's been a very pleasant seller to deal with and has shared some great stories associated with this hat. Once I have it in hand I plan to share some of the info about her grandfather who was the previous owner.

That's a good looking Champ and a pretty scarce one I'd say. Especially don't see a lot of corded ribbon with a wind trolley on a hat. I think HJ has one though not a Champ, I don't think. This was my first vintage purchase, similar to yours but marked 4X with no model name.

Thanks, BB. I think our hats could be twins. The only reason I know my soon to be is a Texan is because of the original box. It's hard to say for sure but it looks like the color is "SILVER TAN," though it's hard to tell due to the fading on the box. I would assume this is their version of silver belly.

Yours appears to have a little bit more color contrast between the felt and the corded ribbon, though that could simply be due to variations in lighting. Is it a light grey (as it appears on my screen), or more silver belly?

I looked through some threads here and I think I found only a couple other references of this hat. There appears to be one just like mine, and a black one as well though the picture links have lost/broken for the black. Yours would be three and mine will be four.

Mine is SB as well, though a little darker than what we might associate with Stetson colors or the era. It has that slight green undertone to it which is common in Resistol SB's. Also, mine is worn and has been beat to hell. Hard to do a comparative analysis with these two examples.
