View attachment 246036 Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. These are the two photos that are the closest up of the pictures given. I'm not sure what kind of pictures you want, as you can see from the View attachment 246030 View attachment 246031 View attachment 246032 fourth pic there is only remnants of the sweat. I should see it in person in less than a week and be able to offer more in the manner in which would help you the most.
It looks great, a fun summer hat. You may know this already but in case not....don't be fearful of sewing in a new leather sweat band. You can pickup great quality ones from Tim @purebeaver on Instagram. Or FineVintageFedoras on Etsy.com. They are very easy to sew in by hand. I can do it and I don't have any fingers....they all act as thumbs!

$1,100.00 a lot for a late ‘50s or ‘60s 3X Open Road...maybe, but this 3X is also a “hundred” and the “highest cape” Stetson made. If only it was my size. :(

An awesome tip off from @Frunobulax Dobbs Westward

Liner logo has me thinking post war mid/late 40s to early 50s. Clear. Plastic liner tip throwing me off.

anyway. Nice hat.. think it will clean up nicely. Thanks Jim

Nice one!!!
Not 40's.......The plastic tip protector would make it after 53 when these were introduced.....I have seen that same logo used up into the 1970's.......looking at what appears to be a narrower brim I would say past the mid-50's at least.....re-order tags will tell us more....
Still nice Get!!!!

PS: Joe, to add to my post here are a couple of inside pictures of my Dobbs Westward from 1953.....How do I know it is 1953?? It has a Ceiling Price tag (OPS 1951-1953) and has the stiff/brittle cellophane plastic tip protector as was introduced in 53 (replacing the cheesecloth/onionskin tip protectors). You can see the logo and liner is a lot different.....the soft plastic liners are from a later time circa 1960 or later as it that logo......I would say your new hat is actually contemporary to the Stetson box it was found in....so 1960's....still to find a nice Westward from before 1970 is no small thing!!!!
GREAT TAG TEAM WORK!!!!!!!!!!

No prob, Joe. Once I figured out the size was likely yours, it was a no-brainer. Agree (so far) on the dating. The seller claimed no re-order tags, but maybe you'll get lucky.

Just remember, if it does turn out to be a 7 1/4...
Absolutely

AND, by way of gripes......When looking under vintage HATS, when did non-vintage CAPS suddenly become valuable VINTAGE HATS?!?!??!?!?!?
giphy.gif

I mean WTF is with eBay allowing all this crap.......why even have categories!??!?!??!!?!? Isn't it bad enough all these CAPS, and knit head-wear show up under the new HAT category?!?!?!?!!?
WHEW.....now I STILL don't feel better even after my rant.................

This one was floating in the bay with zero bids... Not anything I was looking for... but figured for $4 I’d rescue it from just floating on out to sea. Cool ribbon color.... I do fear that may be an entire bird tucked under it though!

Thanks Mark... cool info... Thanks for digging in. I suggested my previous estimate based on notes from THP related to the liner logo and debossment with logo and name on the sweat. I agree In looking closer at the sweat photos the reeding looks like a later hat. It should be here tomorrow or the next day And I will get a closer look. Hoping to find something under the sweat... though I’m nervous after pretty much destroying the sweat on the Cross country.

Yes, I wish he would have covered that logo better than just saying "post war"......I have seen that logo in use well beyond 1970........and find it quite often on stingy brims.........
But you can see the big differences from my 1953 Westward.....in the sweat, reed, logo and even the type of cellophane/plastic......I think there MAY be a few Dobbs Westwards if we scroll through the Open Road Clone thread......always something to learn for all of us, I am always looking and learning!!!

YES....
And you have it bad (as do MANY of us here).....GREAT hats you have been picking up!!!! It is a LOT of fun seeing your finds!!!!! Though...so far..... I think that Stetson Standard Quality is STILL my favorite!!!!
Not sure I will ever beat that one.. maybe should stop now. Still in shock that it fit.

OK. Who had Medium to Dark Brown with a reddish brown ribbon for the win??? Anyone.... anyone?

I thought for sure it was another black or maybe dark charcoal with a weird purplish ribbon..... either way wasn’t gonna lose on this one. Turns out it’s much nicer though.
