Ever heard of Gimpling?

Cigarband

A-List Customer
The seller of a hat I was watching put the following line in the description, "The silk thread 1/2" gimpling is without damage." When I asked what "gimpling" is, he said that "gimp" is the ribbon trim around the brim. I never heard this name for the edge trim before. The seller is Canadian, so I wondered if this is a colloquialism, or just new to me. What say you O' Friends of the Fedora?[huh]

Isn't it gimping...??? not gimpling...
I believe gimping is correct.
Back in the ol' days I worked in a textile factory. In addition to knitting, braiding, and spooling machines there were gimp machines.
On our gimp machines the warp yarn was run vertically through the machines and a weft material was woven horizontally around it.
We produced gimp of various thicknes and colors.

About the auction, I will guess the trim is ribbon and not gimp.

And by the way,

...it's a Dumpling made out of crushed, wet Gimps.
A Gimpling.

Or a cocktainl of Gin and Gimp.
Another Gimpling.

Or that famous figure of literature, with the limp,
Rudyard Gimpling.

Suzy broke her foot, she'll gimp for weeks,
poor little gimpling.
