I am currently reading Fascinating Womanhood by Helen Andelin - it was first published in 1965 but it seems older than that to me. Maybe a bit more 1950s or the stereotype of the 50s anyway.

The cover says it is "The Classic Bestseller - More Than Two Million Copies In Print" but I don't know how popular it was or if it was more of a fringe movement.

Did "wife guides" exist back then? I am thinking of all the books out there on the subject now!

I have a couple of charm guide books from the 50s / early 60s and magazines seemed to advertise self improvement as a goal. Much the same as now.
