That could maybe work but it sounds like a risky prospect.

Maybe instead of just providing measurements, you use one of MrProper's specs as the reference? Given his Greek sculpture physique, that should account nicely for shoulder slope.

But if it fits his statuesque-ness well, I don't think it will fit my only-humanness well and I'll be in the same position I am now: with a jacket that sits on my neck rather than my shoulders. Which is a well-known Aero thing in general, but I'm hoping slightly slopier shoulders would help me out.

My 1930’s halfbelt has arrived!

First impressions
-heavy af!! This thing must weigh around 8lbs as it is 2mm steerhide
-has a very slight chemical smell which I am comfident will go away once I air it out. I do smell leather though which I am sure will be more prominant once I start wearing it

I am very happy with the quality of this jacket. The stitching from what I can see is great. It feels as though I am wearing body armour though, it is quite stiff right out of the box but will loosen up with time. I am not sure if 2mm is the right thickness for a non riding jacket. It’s a bit too thick imo.

Anyway here are some photos. I didn’t have anybody around to take some from the back but I will soon and I will post them.

Overall I am pleased with the jacket and it fits well. They got all the measurements down to the T. I will be buying from them again!

Damn, the 2mm thick-ass steer seems like a perfect fit for a guy of your side and stature. Fit looks perfect to my eyes from those photos. Congrats!
Thanks! I’ve always had “mall” jackets and this time I wanted something a cut above and this is certainly it. It’s gonna take a bit to break in, this leather is substantial, but beautiful!

I studied this thread for sizing, measured multiple jackets I own and also measured myself many times over. Looks like I nailed it!

I mainly went off Ton’s measurements as we are about the same size - 5’11” 205-210lb.

Nice fit MadCat! Can you please detail the back pattern? To be more exact, how did you decide the placement of the halfbelt?

By the way, this is my first post on the forum, I am honored to be in such a select company.

Thank you!

For the halfbelt I actually didn’t request anything.

I'm not asked, but I'll write anyway.
I measured the distance from the Hem to my natural waist and then drew it into the photo.
That worked well the second time I tried it.

What bothers me about the halfbelts from fivestar (although I don't know if this isn't always the case with halfbelts) is the construction of the back.
It consists of three parts. The upper part, to which the upper edge of the belt is sewn, then the belt and then the lower part, which is sewn to the lower edge of the belt. I.e. where the belt is, the material is not double, but only at the seams. It seems less stable to me.
But maybe that's the case with all halfbelts.

that my shoulders are more sloped than the pattern allows for. Does anyone think that if I gave 5* measurements that somehow included something about that, they'd be able to adjust accordingly?
I think I tried that once with the slant, but I can't find anything more about it. Maybe I just intended to do it.
Anyway, if I wanted to do it, I would draw in the details as @Canuck Panda has shown in some of his pictures (with two measuring tapes).
A horizontal line from shoulder to shoulder and a vertical line from the horizontal line to the collar seam. So an inverted T.
Alternatively, two vertical lines to the two outer edges of the neck hole. But then the width of the neck hole must also be indicated, but it is better detailed.
And then, of course, give all the measurements accordingly.

Given his Greek sculpture physique
lol
I'm far from that... too tall, too thin, too little muscle, too little hair...

Thanks for the suggestions! Do you have any idea if it worked, or is it a bad idea as @Aloysius warned?

Not MrF but Aero? They use to distress the LVC leather before delivering them I believe, I don't quite remember.
5Star jackets could be oderless upon delivery if they spent some time just hanging before being packaged.
Paint will smell like gas, but only when it's fresh.

I can't remember who it was - Ken or Denny, maybe - but I remember somebody from Aero at one point saying that they supplied all leather jackets to Levis in 'as new' condition; any distressing done prior to sale (as memory serves, Levis did both distressed and undamaged versions) was by Levis themselves, or at least someone other than Aero.

There will probably not be a guarantee, but I can imagine that it works. Because experience shows that 5* pays attention to the desired details, as long as you can say exactly what needs to be done.
What doesn't work is "I want round sleeves" or "I want an angle of 20 degrees". What works is if I give exact measurements in the right places.
But of course there is a residual risk.
If you already have a 5* and make corrections to the measurements from it, then it can work. If you have an Aero, for example, and correct the dimensions here that 5* should take into account, something else will come out. For example, an identical back length is slightly shorter with an Aero than with a 5*. I think that with 5* the collar seam is a little lower respectively with Aero it is a little higher.

At least that is my theory.

Thanks! Unfortunately all I have to go on is my Aero Hooch Hauler. But I'm already thinking of this as a learning experiment where I might develop a better sense of what a good fit is for me, rather than a guaranteed perfect jacket. I'm rolling the dice, but hoping that drawing on all the experience/knowledge on these forums loads them my way!

There used to be a facility in Kentucky or somewhere that specialised in doing very careful, realistic hand distressing. It went out of business but I believe RRL and LVC were among the customers.

I'm looking into a G-1 from 5 Star. They have quite a few of them and in your opinion, which one would be the better one to get?

Are you looking for a military repro or a civilian flight jacket?

From the name, it sounds like this is one of the original-model patterned G-1 jackets. And if I remember correctly, this black one came about when someone wanted his own Buzz Rickson’s William Gibson G-1 duplicated.

Definitely a Military repro. I did see the black one looks pretty sharp. I would have them do it in Seal Brown. Something like the Aero M422A. The price is really good compared to the Aero.
