I got the new Brooks Brothers catalog in the mail, or a Brooks Brothers catalog. I was about to throw it in the recycle bin when I saw the catch phrase "Generations of Style." Style? I'm thinking. Yeah, right. Lo and behold I open the catalog to find entirely leather goods--no stodgy button-down collars or stupid striped ties. Swanky leather goods to boot. Really nice shoes, really nice bags (a wallet or money clip,well, aren't they pretty much all the same?). I was stunned to find even some shoes that are too modern looking for me (Mr. late-50s, early-60s). Sure some of it is a little too gaudy--like the lizard-skin cap-toe oxfords--but style? Looks like they're recapturing something old and making it new again. Now I only wish I had the $500 for some wing tips or some monk-strap ankle boots. Check it out--good to see.
