Might sound a silly question but ....I have been looking for a good pair of gloves and that looks (as does the PO) pretty nice. Who makes them please?

these gloves are cheap Buffalo hide work gloves that I purchased years ago. They patina’d nicely from lots of wear.

From left Lorenz automatic, Invicta Pro Diver 8926 auto and on the right is a French made L.O.V Espadon (Swordfish) auto. The third one is a Berli-Lyon, which is a brand with hardly any net info. I once saw a posting on a French watch forum which pointed out that their logo is the same as the Berliet truck logo and that Berliet's plant is in Lyon. I've seen a couple of Cauny watches that look identical. Movement is a Lorsa P75 manual winder.

My Pa´s Glashütte 70s Spezimatic. Nothing special. Practically socialistic mass-production.

BUT, on the next occasion, I will let a watchmaker reinstall the movement into it´s original case, which I like so much more and add a decent leather strap!!

The movement still seems to run fine. But it never stood inactive for a too long time! Pa moved it some times over the last 30 years.
The drift seems to be very good for a mechanical watch.

It never had a general service, as far as I know. Wouldn´t be worthy enough to do.

Actually, I ´m surprised of Pa´s 45 years old Glashütte! The daily backdrift is very low, circa 15 seconds!!

Remember, this automatic NEVER had a service!
Pa wore it from the 70s until circa 1990, when he got his silver Casio AQ-230A.

That -15 seconds/day can probably be corrected for by using the regulator to speed the watch up a bit.

Having said that, you really should have the watch serviced. The oil is likely gummed up by now & wear to the pivots & gearing will occur if the watch is run beyond trying it out. Besides which following servicing the 15 seconds daily loss may take care of itself (or at least the watchmaker will do the adjustment for you as part of the overhaul).

Regardless of any inherent value, my favorite watches are those which once belonged to my father. I take extra special care of them because they were his.

I´m not really one of the emotional value-people.
A general overhaul in old Germany is much too expensive for such a very-basic mass production automatic watch. At least 300 EUR would be necessary for a total overhaul.

Actually, the old caliber runs excellent. I added an adequate leather strap, yesterday and now it´s a beauty.

If you take your watch off for sleeping you could possibly improve the daily average accuracy placing it in the right position on your nightstand, crown up, crown down, glass up, back up. It‘s sometimes worth the effort tinkering a bit around with that.

With the new excellent leather strap, the old Glashütte now lays flat on it´s back at night, like all my other watches and has finally a nice foredrift since yesterday!

New Glycine Airman 46 arrived a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't size the steel bracelet down to my wrist size so I put it on a NATO strap until I can find something in steel that fits me.
