Morton and Hayes

There was a delightful little summer replacement television comedy in 1991 called "Morton and Hayes". It was conceived by Rob Reiner and the guys who did "Spinal Tap", etc. and ran for about six episodes. It was a spoof on the old comedy teams of the 1930s and 40s. They were supposedly newly-found black-and-white shorts of the team of Chick Morton and Eddie Hayes. You can find one on You Tube by typing in Morton and Hayes "Society Saps".

To give you an idea...the very first thing that Chic does when he gets out of bed in the morning is put on his fedora...;)

Let's hear what you think!

I thought I was the only person in the world who remembers this show -- I still have tapes of a few episodes from the original run. Chic and Eddie were sort of a low-rent Abbott and Costello, and what made the series work is that it was done absolutely straight, with no smirking hipster irony at all -- it seemed like an authentic attempt to actually do a '40s-style series of comedy shorts in the 1990s. And Reiner's intros were so Leonard Maltin straight that if you didn't know better you'd swear that Morton and Hayes actually existed.

I remember seeing a few episodes of that. It was obviously a loving tribute to the golden age of comedy. There were elements of Laurel and Hardy, the Three Stooges and the aforementioned Abbott and Costello.
I would enjoy seeing those again.

Sincerely,
the Wolf

I vaguely remember that show.

Kevin Pollack and Bob Amaral played the titled characters. There are a half dozen clips from the show at Bob Amaral's website
