Debating whether to do a flip as is or to hold on to it and restore. Felt is in good shape but sweatband is split at the tag and has a few tears elsewhere. Liner is stained. Seller said the hat shop (Rex Hatters Inc Houston) closed their doors in 1946 so hat appears to have some age to it. The hat fits me perfectly but not a style I typically wear. TBD whether this is a win or not.

If it cleans up I’d say it’s well worth the cost and effort in bringing it back to its prime.

Your hat was made after Stetson bought Mallory in 1946, but it still has the fabric size tag with the diagonal cut so it’s probably late 1940s to mid 1950s. That’s just a guess and others might get you a closer date.

Not gonna go wrong with a Mallory from this era. If it fits I'd definitely clean it up and keep it.

I was able to verify that Rex Hatters Inc of Houston did a filing in 1946 to forfeit their existence. I also found a Rex Hatters advertisement in a 1945 Houston area high school annual. The evidence leans towards this being a 40s hat.

The 1817 date shown in the liner of your hat indicates it was made after Stetson bought them out in 1946. The earlier hats will have an 1823 date. I really like the extra wide binding on your hat.

As arrived:

The Wards western was a bit under Goodwill's measurement coming in at around a 7-3/8 size ... so it'll go back out the door after some clean up. :(

The packing for the two Borsalinos (Borsalini?) and the extra straw hat (from another auction lot) was good, but just a bit tight vertically.

The "Allessandria" was in the Mallory box so escaped unscathed.

The "Gorasgu" (?) took the brunt of the compaction as it was outside the Mallory box with the straw hat jammed into it ("We can make this fit dammit") ...

... but with felt like this it will bounce back.
