Thank you Victor and Bob

Vic,

for the compliment.

Bob,

for the value you gave me for the money, which was definitely less than 24K...:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Update: my wife's cousine took the Optimo (a hat that Bob offered on e-bay?!?) in her hands and asked me this morning what her hat was made from ...she did not realize it was straw. That's basically what true Montecristi fino are about.

Best:

Tamás/Tom

I shared my Hungarian name, but I won't share my Hungarian address....:D

I think the price of anything is what someone was willing to pay for it once.
The season of Panama hats approcahes?
If a similar quality new hat is sold for 70-80 USD than this vintage hat might get the double price.
Its size is also 7 3/8-maybe the size?
[huh]

This is really a straw hat, not panama. However, I find the density of the straw ideal for hot weather, because it won´t steam up my head. The brim may need some shaping, but it´s ok for now.

Looks great with the thin ribbon but yes you could just get another for a wide ribbon!lol

I prefer a thin ribbon, but DHerman this is what I'd do. I'd get a length of inexpensive wide ribbon and put it temporarily on the hat over the existing ribbon. You could just tape the temp ribbon to itself unobtrusively, maybe even fake up a bow. Then I'd neurotically pose around in front of the mirror in the daylight, at night, with a suit on, with a tropical shirt on, etc. trying to decide if I like the narrow or wide ribbon better. Then I'd decide that the guys who made the hats are pros and know what they're doing, and since I like narrow ribbons better, I'd leave it the way it came. But, hey, that's just me. I think it's a great hat as-is.

I forgot to post my straw - it's a Stetson Hempstead bought around 2003 I think:

That's a nice one !!!:eusa_clap

I may have to change my name to "Mr. Teardrop" or something similar. I realized that every hat I own has a teardrop crown. I guess it just says "hat" to me. Although I did try a derby the other day and it looked pretty good - my wife didn't even want to see me put on a boater, so she gave the guy a break from pulling it down from the high shelves....

This is a Panama I got a little while ago...it is my second one

Long time listener, first time caller....;)

I have a couple of Panama hats from Montecristi...this one is the nicer of the two with a tear drop crown. I need to fix it, as one side has a nice roll as it snaps down in front, but the other side buckles up a bit before it goes down in front (if that makes sense). The young man who was fitting it to my head did not speak English, (oh well). I'm not exactly sure how to fix it, perhaps stretch it and iron it. And I would like to make a new ribbon for it (I haven't been able to find a tutorial on how to make one).

Here's a really terrible picture of my new Panama Bob Diamente. This is a nice hat, despite being one of his less expensive models. It'll be great once the weather gets warm. I didn't realize this was a diamond bash, which I'm usually not a fan of, but on this hat it looks great. This block shape really works for me. Thanks Bob!

I'm sure you guys saw this on ebay, I'm sending to directly to Optimo for cleaning and blocking.

I don't know much about Panamas but judging by the pictures it seems to be of fairly good quality.

Please comment.
