Found 2 Federations Deluxe iV on the doorstep this week :D
A dark brown and a moonstone.
They are instant favourites.
First time I tried to bash a hat myself. I like a tight pinch.

Dark brown :

Moonstone :

Those look great! And that's your first attempt at bashing a hat? You should perhaps consider making a career of it. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Very nice, UWS. I find that I'm more and more curious about Hombergs, but that would be something I'd want to try before I buy. I've never had one on my head. I wonder how I'd look in one?

Almost spring

Okay, they're not in yet, but I went on a spree to get ready for the hot and humid Tennessee spring and summer. On the way are a moonstone Fed IV deluxe, a Stetson Retro Panama, and a cocoa teardrop Milan from Miller Hats.

But here's my question, I'm looking for a light grey straw hat. (I'll just have to see how often I can wear that Fed IV once summer gets here.) Miller Hats is out of their pearl in eveything except porkpies. Anyone have suggestions on a good straw available in a light grey?

My new Cuenca Havana from Casey at Panama Hats Direct. An extremely comfortable hat. Initially I was a bit worried this hat would not have a large enough brim to pull off the horsehair band, fortunately I was mistaken

I've posted these before, but as links. Now I know how to do them as pics I'll try it again:eusa_clap

A thrift store find. Does anyone know anything about this brand? It's a very dark green, almost black. I thought it was black until I started brushing it and the green started showing more. The lining says "Wilman & Co. Los Angeles 214 Madison Ave. These pics are after a rebash and stretch

Looks good, Dreispitz!

What markings are on the sweatband, or labels underneath it? Any information I can collect for my research is useful.

Thanks.

Brad

Alright -
I haven't been hitting this board too much recently due to this purchase. This forum is a terrible place to frequent if you mean to hold on to your cash. This hat was purchased about a week and a half ago and arrived on Friday. I have to say it is awfully nice, and just about all the things people say it is. I was very fortunate to stumble onto one without having to deal with the year-plus wait, which I wouldn't have been able to tolerate.
It has all the qualities of a good hat, in addition to its' intrinsic collectible value, with Mr. Delk's sig under the sweatband, etc... I'm it the laborious process of upsizing it about half a size ( fits now, just not perfectly ), but it should be ready to roll in a couple days. I'm putting it on the jack over night, then wearing it all day, then jack over night a quarter crank bigger, wear all day, etc...
So, here it is, my new Adventurebilt Custom:

This is a traditional German velour hat (hut) style. I am not aware of Hut + Mode as a hat maker (maybe Dreispitz can add input) but it was / is most likely a store chain. Also I am not aware of Wilman & Co. Los Angeles. In most cases this type of hat would be made in Germany/Austria/Italy and exported to the US. Could it be some type of modification / reblock of the original?

Freshly back from Optimo. This hat is probably from the late 1920's as it came in a Montgomery Ward St. Paul Minnesota box with a 10 cent stamp dating from 1927. It was open crown never creased and untouched in its original box. A little bit of water got into the box and stained the liner but not the felt. Originates from a farmhouse in Bancroft, South Dakota and Gold Stamped E C Olson but not mentioning multiple stores. This Hat reads Royal Stetson Deluxe as opposed to the later more common Stetson Royal Deluxe. The dimensions are very much like the Open Road, just a little taller crown than the later incarnation. The crease is in the style of FDR's Campaign Hat in Warm Springs, GA. $38.00 on ebay a couple of weeks ago.
