Echter Borsalino "Sandurbar", Point 6 1/2, Open Crown 16 cm 6 1/4 inches, Brim 7 cm 2 3/4 inches, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. The "Ossido" color Felt is of medium weight, has a very soft hand and easily hand creases. There was a Wind Cord at one time and the Crown Tip Patch is missing but there are some glue remnants. I searched "Sandurbar" and it appears to be a port in the Western India State of Goa on the Arabian Sea. I think the name is out dated because there were only a few mentions and they were from the early 1900s.

Can see faint remnants of the Crown Tip Patch.

Great find, Steve. Borsalino names are often a crazy rabbit hole investigation, most often leading to their wonderfully inventive imagination.

What a case of serendipity. Yesterday, I was admiring the two Cambiaghi hats Stefan is now waiting for. Today, I found this one in a charity shop out of town.

Not near as old as Stefan's, more 60s to 70s I'd say.

A good feel to the wool felt as is the usual for this Monza maker, nice ribbon and bow treatment, needs a bit of tlc to get it into shape.

Borsalino in full glory. Glorious hat and heartening to know that they can still be found.

That's a cool find, Steve. Cambiaghi is a tough hat to find, probably because they were made of wool, so less likely to have survived. That one should shape up nicely with a bit of TLC.

Third new hat of the week. This may be an unknown maker, but oh my, the quality of this Bowler is top class.

Wonderful hand to the felt, excellent finishes.

The liner and tip suggest 1930s to me.
20220227_131553.jpg

Nice soft sweat.
20220227_131540.jpg

I couldn't get a full image of the paper label as the liner is glued over most of it. Interesting though that it's in English.
20220227_125353.jpg

Anyone recognise this logo?
20220227_125300.jpg

The only thing wrong with this hat is it's not my size. I knew that before buying it of course. I wanted it because it looked old, but in very good condition. Plus it was retailed in a hat store in Denmark's 3rd largest city that I've developed an interest in.

I'd love to know more about Pascal & Gie.

Drei - Spitz Marke, Gustav Sellckau Hamburg / J. Hückel´s Söhne "Foulard", FP 6 3/4, Date Stamped 09/16/1931. This Stiff Felt was made by J. Hückel´s Söhne (JSH) for Gustav Sellckau Hamburg (GSH). I have not encountered a "Foulard" JHS Stiff Felt before so it's unique. It's Date Stamped (09/16/31) which is rare for JHS (probably stamped by GSH) and the Paper Label Type is very similar to the JHS Stiff Felt Paper Label Types 1a, 1b and 2 (which are all similar). The Felt has a very nice finish and overall condition is excellent. I have not encountered this type of Sweatband before and it is marked "J / Special" so most likely custom for Gustav Sellckau Hamburg.

It looks an absolute beauty in pristine condition, Steve. All hats should have date stamps :)

Thank you Bill @buler for passing on this beautiful Borsalino. I’ve wanted a hat with these colors—best seen on the closeups below—for a long time. I especially like it because it reminds me of this 1930s Dick Tracy cover that I’ve had framed in my house for years. Can anyone give me specifics for date based on the interior labels?

Enjoy your Tuesday!

David

It's a beautiful bowler, Steve, and a great find. I think it's Pascal&cie: notice that the C is the same in both Pascal and Cie.
