M.W.B. Stolzf. Luxury Velour, Stone Gray, measures 58cm, 2 3/8 inch brim, 5 1/2 inch open crown, very good condition, probably 1930s. I have been looking for one of these shiny gray Velours in my size for a long time. The Velour is really fantastic on this one! I am not familiar with the company initials but I was able to find information on the Berlin store (Leineweber) it was made for. More in the German - Austrian thread.

Mayserwegener - that is unbelievable! Luminous! I'd almost consider moving to a colder climate just so I could justify having such a beautiful hat! The way that color catches the light is unreal.

This Van **** just arrived yesterday from Canada. I tried to find some information on the company without much luck. There is a Van **** Hatters located in Brooklyn, NY but I don't believe they are in any way affiliated. The hat has a 2 1/2" brim with a thin overwelt edge and a 5 1/4" crown as shown which is wrapped in a 1 3/4" grosgrain ribbon. The liner tip may have had an oilkskin cover at one time. The leather sweatband is unreeded. I tried the hat with both a front pinch with the brim turned down and a side pinch with the brim turned up and I think I prefer the latter. Inside the hat appears much darker like a navy blue. If anyone has some information about this hat maker please let me know.

No info on the maker, but I understand that the oilskin backing to the sweat was only popular in the very early 1950's until it was learned that it caused damage to the leather. That and the unreeded sweat, high crown, liner imprint, sweat embossing and "reverse" taper lead me to date it late 1940's to early 1950's. It's a beauty. I'll give you $39.78 for it, plus S&H.
