Now it's time to look at and examine the remade and/or remodeled hats I've recently purchased.
Toank Blu 6.jpg

They're often quite easy to decipher, but some are complete enigmas. This one is the case today.
Toank Blu 3.jpg
The red lining has a faded Tonak logo, as does the sweatband.
Toank Blu Interno.jpg
Toank Blu marchio Tonak.jpg
The size listed is 58, but in reality the internal measurements are those of a size 56/57 hat, depending on the fit.
Toank Blu 5.jpg
The felt is very interesting, very dense and thick, and its finishing touches, which I assume were added after its creation, or were left in during the remaking.
Toank Blu 7.jpg

The felt appears to be a midnight blue, and the ribbons that trim it are slightly lighter. I find the combination beautiful.
The external measurements are as follows: brim at 6.5 cm, ribbon is 2,5 cm and the lowest point of the crown is 10.5 cm.
Toank Blu 8.jpg
The internal measurements are: 19x16.5 centimeters
Toank Blu 9.jpg
I bought it with the clear intention of being able to wear it after some work to adjust it to my size. That's not possible, it's too small to fit, so if anyone is interested, let me know.

Another day, another remake, this time an Italian creation.
Ravazzotti lobbia 7.jpg

The hat, a splendid homburg of average dimension and magnificent color, was remodeled in Genoa starting from a hat probably made in the US.
Ravazzotti lobbia 9 bis.jpg
Here, I ask for the help of American enthusiasts: the Italian production label is dated March 1958 and was glued next to a pre-existing red and white label. Here the photo of the detail
Ravazzotti lobbia etichetta.jpg
Do any of you have any ideas? I believe it is a remake of an American hat.
Ravazzotti lobbia Interni.jpg
The lining elegantly bears the shop's logo, but I am convinced the felt is not of local origin.
Ravazzotti lobbia 2.jpg
These are the measurements of the homburg: the brims, crimped with a very wide trimming band, are 5 cm. The band contrasts with the color of the felt and is 4 cm high, and the crown at its lowest point is 11 cm.
Ravazzotti lobbia 6.jpg

The size is listed and is 55 cm; the original dimensions are 19 x 15.5 cm.
What particularly attracted me was the color of the felt and the trimming ribbons, one that matches the color of the felt and the ribbon in perfect contrast and the very wide trimming of the brims.
Ravazzotti lobbia 8.jpg
This time too, my curiosity to find an Italian hat was dashed by the size.
Like the Tonak, this one is also for sale.

Yes it came in a Stetson box. Although they do sometimes ship with a different type of set up...still protects hats but may be something like the bottom of a Stetson box with a different top as the cover. Happens sometimes with other hat sellers as well.. My guess is boxes get ruined or lost at some point so they do what they can. The main thing is that they arrive in good shape and out of 5 hats I purchased from them ALL were smooth sales.

Another day, another remake, this time an Italian creation.

Very attractive style. Too bad about the size.

This hat is a bit of a mystery. “Enterprise Brand” from G. S. H. & Co.

As arrived:

After some dust removal and steam. Getting there…

IMG_7140.jpeg

IMG_7141.jpeg

4-1/2” crown, 3-1/4” brim.

I’ve had no luck coming up with a company name for these initials. At first I thought it might be the Gauss-Shelton Hat Co. (St. Louis), but the “&” messes that up. Unless Hunicke was in there with Gauss and Shelton for a hot minute.

“Beaver Brands” lineage:

This size sticker style is seen on 1920s era hats and older.

1896 - 1934 union label.

Good news after putting out word to my small circle of friends here.... may have already found someone with a smaller head!

I did leave positive feedback for the seller since they got it here real quick, packed it well, and the hat is in really nice condition..... Sent the seller a polite note informing them of that and that Id be keeping it... asked that they be more judicious in listing hat sizes.... not my nature to act the fool and start demanding satisfaction. Ill use it as another learning experience to be more careful... it was ebay after all. Ill be asking for pictures of the size tag lol

After the disappointment of last weeks way too small Stetson, the mailman made me happy again today! An almost new condition/ never shaped late 1970s/early 80s American Maxi Felt in Dark brown. ( that actually fits). I picked this one up out of nostalgia.... I had one just like it back in the 70's. 6-1/2" crown 4" brim.

This ones basically pristine and just begging to be shaped..... Ill have to think about this one for a while before I start doing anything to it. Im open to good suggestions as to what I should do with this blank canvas. I suppose I could leave it as-is and really stand out in the crowd lol. An unmolested open crown just looks good to my minds eye. For the immediate future Im thinking a bit of brim shaping but leave the crown alone.

Not sure about the hatband..... trying to decide if someone hand braided it or just robbed the pull cord off their wifes curtains. Almost looks like braided binders twine over a cotton cord. It looks good enough for now but I do have a couple braided horsehair bands standing by if needed. Ive also got a bunch of different color braided leather cords, or I could do up about a 12 plat flat braided band..... Im just happy to have some of my childhood memories back in a hat that I can actually get on my head

I love this "up close and personal" photo of the felt. It looks to be quite healthy, and, without having an opportunity to feel it as well, I would imagine it will last quite a while.

P. & C. Habig Wien, Hutmacher 1862, Seidenzylinder / Silk Top Hat, 58 cm, Crown 6 inches / 15 cm, Width 9 1/2 inches / 24 cm, Length 12 inches / 30,5 cm, possibly early to Mid 1920s. This is a really fantastic Seidenzylinder and in excellent condition. Superb overall (components & workmanship) quality. It has the Paper Label and other interesting markings be behind the Sweatband. There is a P. & C. Habig Wien "Patent Ventilator" at the Front of Sweatband but not mentioned. Also came with a restored + modified Blue Carton with an interesting interior design.
