Love that Hat, and color combo, SCOTT! Very sharp!

Thanks everyone! It's always nice when a gamble cleans up well. Unfortunately it's on the small end of 7 1/4 (and I'm on the big end), so this is one of the few occasions when I've put a hat on the stretcher. Looking forward to seeing positive results in the morning.

I've been lucky enough now to experience the Cav edge in about every hat brand - this is as well-executed as any of them.

I am not a huge fan of the movie "The French Connection"... but I did fall in love with the hat Gene Hackman wore. My good friend, Gary White here at Buffalo's Custom Hatter has made me another version of the diamond porkpie. I have a black one I ordered last year, and love it so much I decided to get a similar style in chocolate brown. I'm so impressed with how it came out, and am so honored to have a master hatter like Gary White here in my own backyard.

Stetson Whippet

The brown Whippet has arrived - and it's not really in the best condition.
The felt is fine, but the ribbon and especially the edge binding are pretty worn, as you can see in the photos (note the binding), but those lighter spots are not smudges. The grosgrain ribbon had been roughened in numerous places and so doesn't reflect the light evenly across the surface anymore. The sweat also has a couple of cracks.

Looks like I have a Whippet beater now... ;)

Oh, and I went with a center dent this time. No diamonds for now... :D

Mario, that Whippet may be worn but it still has all the character! :eusa_clap

I received this new (very) dark brown today. As can be seen there's not a lot for markings on it. There is a printed tag under the band but the box was full of the remains of the old plastic hat cover which had disintegrated giving the effect of having sparkles all over and as a result I am going to have to do any work this hat somewhere that it won't get all over. The stuff really sticks and it's going to be a challenge.

George M. Wilson The Mens Store Inc. Homburg

I found this brown George M. Wilson The Mens Store Inc. Homburg (size 7 3/8) up in Pittsburgh. Nothing on the paper label that points to the company that made it. Any clue? The price was $6.00. Looks to be 1940s.

The Bunny Velour is soft and a little floppy but the hat construction is a bit unrefined. Somewhere between 1948-1990. Made in East Germany in a town south of Berlin that once had 12 hat factories. 4-1/4" crown and 2-3/8" brim. This hat has an unreeded sweat with a taped seam, pleated liner and frayed edge bow but I would guess it is from the 1960's. More in Austrian and German thread.

I think there should be a law that all hats start off with that bash - very nice!

Mario, it may be a beater but it still has the Whippet "flair"! Enjoy!

Scott, nice Dobbs.

Mayserwegener, that homburg has great style and appears to have a shorter brim thn most. Very nice.

I love the velour finish. The brim size also seems perfect for the hat. Great find!

I agree. Had you only talked about a velour finish on a hat in that spec range, I'd have said it would look odd... But that looks fantastic, on and off your head, rlk.

Stetson 4X Teaser

Really seems unworn. This ain't no Open Road... Box is great too. Seems like a slightly finer finishing than the 3X--maybe a touch of Beaver in the blend. Kind of halfway between the 3X and 7X as one might expect. Felt weight is thicker than the 25 and a little less compacted(25 has almost no texture). More photo details when I can avoid mixed lighting. 4 degrees with blowing snow so no outdoor shots(my battery lasts about 30 seconds any way). Unusual tall center crease with side dents like a Diamond. Pretty firm stiffening though still soft and smooth. 5-1/2""crown height at peaks as creased. 2-7/8" polished raw edge brim.

Stetson Black Panama Stingy

I just got this black stingy Panama. I'd be interested in any thoughts as to vintage (60s maybe?). Anyway, I very pleased with it. It's a nice soft straw and very pleasant to wear.
