By the way, your celestial photos (per link at bottom) from an improbable and light-polluted location are simply breathless. Leaving aside your fine taste in hats and caps, a you are most extraordinary photographer and individual.

My Cap find from flea market. Ernst Moden Köln, 8 panel Cap 30% cashmere 70% Lambswool.

Does "Ernst Moden" in Köln still exist? I found a Panzara Homburger type hat from Ernst Moden on the streets in Copenhagen with the initials F.H. and tried to contact Ernst Moden to maybe track the owner down through them, but the telephone numbers I found seemed to be out of service.
I would have posted a photo, but do not seem to have the priviliges yet.

Henrik, welcome here! Your are right! Ernst Moden is my guess, no longer in business.
Ernst was a Hatshop in cologne/ Köln. It closed, if It´s right 1980. Ernst Moden is newer shop , but it has the same Adress. It comes after 1980!

Thanks, I've seen the Hats Plus site. They have a large selection of City Sport. Postage for me is $35 from them, but they have a good range.

Because you guys got me hooked I have ordered two more caps which arrived yesterday.

The first is my second one from Bela (Hepville) and it´s even better than the first, grey Herringbone-cap I have bought from him. Bela, you have tried to tempt me and of course you have succeeded. :eeek:
It´s made from Harris Tweed again and the colour is a rich chocolate brown. You have seen the details in Belas photos so I haven´t made any close up shots myself. I especially like the liner which is very
soft and supple. There is a push button on the brim, a leather sweatband and together with the leather strap at the back of the cap this makes up for a great package.
I don´t know if it´s for the heavier liner but on my head the sides of the cap droop nicely which I like in particular. Well done Bela, all in all it´s an instant fav! :eusa_clap

Before Bela lured me into sending him more of my hard earned money I had decided to pull the trigger on a nice looking Donegal cap on Ebay.
It was delivered in the same day and so I had two caps to try on. It´s a so called "Diamond Cap" by William Thompson Ltd., London (not that I ever heard of them...).
The colour is a greenish heather and the Tweed is quite heavy. It is lined with black satin, has a reinforced brim and a push button. Again, fit and finish is all I could ask
of a newsboy cap. The top is so heavy, it droops easily to one side so you can achieve that famous "Redford look" is you like.

With now so many nice Tweed caps I wish winter would never end! (Just joking, I am looking forward to wearing a nice straw in the sun...).

@Razzman: The cap is a 60 whereas my head is a 59 so the strap comes quite handy. Apart from that I do like it a lot for it´s looks,
so if possible I would choose it again on a bespoke cap.

Those Hepville caps are looking better and better. The Willy Thom is a great looking cap too. The brim looks nice and big for an English cap and I am looking for something in a flecky tweed myself.

The Thompsons brim is quite thick and stiff and the cap holds it´s shape very nicely. I would really recomment it although I don´t know who sells it apart from that german

No, I never saw that one on ebay, and zero results when I googled, so it's a good find, Frank. I am developing a liking for those thicker brims on newsboys, especially when combined with a tweed or a herringbone - kind of highlights the pattern. I like my brims big and chunky

City Sport Arrivals

These arrived today from Chicago.
Two City Sport (Belgian) 8/4 caps, both model 420 (11-11.5" diameter).

Here's the linen:



They called the color "sage", and it's truly the color of Artemesia tridentata leaves. This was exactly what I'd been looking for in a linen cap. The material is stiff enough and holds it's shape very well, tightly woven, really top quality linen for this application. Exceeded my expectations.

Now here's the beige tartan Harris tweed:

Note the mesh lining in the linen one. The hat material looks very tightly woven, but you can see light through the lining and the cap when you hold it to the sky.

I ordered 60 cm this time per Adnamira's information, seeing as we have the same in-between head size. The Harris tweed fits 59.5 perfectly, so I'd tentatively say on average the CS wools might run a half size small. Now the linen one is looser, more a true 60. I wondered...was this manufacturing variation or deliberate? The linen is a warm-weather cap after all, and a looser fit could be cooler.

Wore it on a walk with the dogs this afternoon, in our weirdly un-seasonal Atlanta weather, 82F on leaving and 79F on returning. It was just right. That's the fit I'd want for warm temperatures.

Some weights in case you're curious, all model 420:
Donegal tweed, thick (not shown) 4.45 oz
Harris tweed 3.75 oz
Linen 3.4 oz

That gives you some idea about the weight of the linen.
Yow. I am truly impressed with City Sport so far.

Wow, that linen cap is bigger and better than I expected. And damn City Sport for lining up all the lines and patterns on their caps, because now I am looking at my other brand caps and am disatified that they haven't done the same. I wonder how they do that... and if it involves wasting fabric to get the lines to all match. I'm glad the fit was alright. I have a tendency to want to pull my caps well down over my head, so I probably tend to go for bigger sizes due to that. The Harris Tweed looks like it fits you perfectly. I would tend to agree that maybe this brand runs half a size in metric small, because my 60cm cap fits me quite tight - the brim is padded against the forehead quite a lot, so it probably would fit a size 60cm but I think it would be a little tight. Maybe the difference in size between these two has to do with the different fabrics. I may have to do some shopping at hats plus, I think.
