I find big band and jazz soothing. I often have Sirius 40s on 4 playing in my office at work.

I have the music playing softly in the background. It adds a soothing feeling yet at the same time conveys a sort of casual energy if that makes any sense.

Music in general of the '40's has a continuity to it where it seems to flow very well. A jump tune can perk you up and inspire good feelings. A mellow tune can level out your mood and help relax.
Yes, Yes very soothing.

A lot of that stuff is instrumental and that always helps in terms of being entertaining yet not too distracting. Gives you a little soundtrack to your own movie. Classical works that way too, but the pop music precursor chord progressions in the swing and jazz stuff from that era ring more familiar and comfortable to most of us today than having Vivaldi playing in the background.

I'm a big fan of 30s and 40s big-band swing jazz. I too, find it very relaxing and comforting, especially late at night and I'm writing or reading and just want to chill out and let my mind wander. Best in this department are Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Jack Hylton, Ray Noble, Guy Lombardo and other greats such as those.

Yikes. Soothing is smooth jazz. Soothing is Kenny G, my man. That's the wrong riff, jack. It's elevator music....man....

Check this stuff out. Very 1940's. Very 52nd Street. You'll want to start staying out late and spending money in jazz clubs.

Jazz At The Philarmonic

The 40's cooked. With gas. It was groovin' high, swingin' like a rusty gate, it was crazy. It was a mess. The cats were jumpin'. It was all reet.

You dig?
