Okay, I'm all for individual styles and different strokes for different folks. But really, would anyone here wear a hat like this? I know it's called a stingy brim but can you really call it a "Fedora"??

I will wear that hat and a thong and bicycle down main street in your town, if you pay my travel expenses.

Can't help but think you're right.

Lower car rooflines, casual styles, a president that didn't often wear hats and the attitude that it was a new era in which the old would be forgotten all contributed to the downfall of tasteful headwear.

i shouldve mentioned, i live in southern california. always wanted to see oregon. i once read an article about a guy who travelled cross country ona bike with a trailer carryinga lawn mower, paid his way mowing lawns. this would nt be the hat i'd use on that particular adventure though.

If you were wearing a tightly taylored 3 piece suit with narrow lapels, a 1 inch wide tie, a 3/8 inch belt belt, and pointy shoes, that hat would go purfectly.

Geeze, I can not believe I thought that was a cool way to dress. My only excuses are that was the style then, and I was 17.

Put me in the would not wear category. I would, however, stand on the parade route to see Richard wear it as described. Particularly if there's a bar I could visit first.

The way that hat looks is the reason I don't wear women's hats. They look somewhat like that and, I suppose, if you are a slim young Brittany or Paris, you might look OK in it (I don't really like it on them, either).

I, too, have a rounded face and need a brim; I look best in 2 1/2" to 3". I look good in hats with brims over 3" but they are cowboy or Aussie hats.

I won a Borsalino ladies hat like that off ebay and am planning to give it to a friend who looks like a younger Eartha Kitt -- I am betting she can probably pull it off. Me, I look like I am wearing a tiny hat box on my head.

Oh, boy, James, you sure can find them!!

Well, let's see -- it does have a brim. Could I pull it off? Probably not, nor would I want to. Maybe Garbo playing one of her Russian roles back in the 30's.

I can't imagine any guy wearing that.

Now, I suppose, when I am back in Iowa, and am foolish enough to go out in a 20-below-zero blizzard, that I will think back on this day, remembering the hat that JamesPowers found, and I will wish, really wish, I had that hat.

Maybe, but probably not....

narrow brim narrow lapels?

Unfortunately, I recently picked up a Knox like the hat
in the picture on eBay. The listing picture was misleading.
I find it unwearable and hope to sell it some day.

In the meantime, I do have some hats with ~2" brims,
which are smaller than they may sound. One is a very
light champ and another is a Bee. I tend to wear them
with casual, light jackets or no jacket. It wouldn't bother
me to get more, as long as they have big crowns (and
nice felt).

Seems to me that while brim width does go with the
face and the style preference (or period preference)
it should also be relative to what you wear. That, it
seems to me (though I have no proof of this) is why
hat brims got narrow at the same time jacket lapels
and ties narrowed.

As for the feather in the picture, well... no explanation.
