Another positive vote for MAC's Mattene. If you're in a town without a MAC store or counter, you can now buy them online. I bought Classic Dame and You Say Tomato, and I love them both. I'll wear Classic dame most often - red with a hint of blue. You Say Tomato has just a hint of orange -...
The Atlanta MAC got pushed back to next week too. I'm eagerly awaiting them. I'm such a lipstick addict - it's the only makeup that I wear regularly, since my skin cleared.
The comparison chart is here:

It's kinda outdated, and I disagree with some of them. There's no way "Champagne" in any amount of layers is going to be like MAC's "Chili", which is a very red brick color.
Lip Ink
The Lip Ink samples are almost as expensive as the colors themselves - but they include a sample of the lip shine and the "Off" remover.
It is really the ultimate lip stain. I've tried several and they wear off my lips awful quickly. But Lip Ink didn't. Only problem I have with it...
I couldn't use the Bare Minerals because of my oily skin. It just mixed with the oil and sat on my face and felt just plain icky. And I so wanted it to work. I've just given up on foundation most of the time. Since started using cold cream at night, my skin's cleared up and my complexion is...
The aspirin honey mask - that's salicylic acid (an exfoliant and anti-inflammatory). I think honey is supposed to have antibacterial qualities to it, like tea tree oil. So, it's kind of a primitive version of modern chemical treatments of acne. People have been putting "chemicals" on their...
I used the DHC cleansing oil before I found that Pond's works better for me. If I had qualms about mineral oil, I'd defintely go back to it. It's more expensive than I like (which is why I'm glad the Ponds works for me) but it's not terrible.
Target Red
Anyone tried the L'oreal Target red, made just for Target? I bought a bonus pack that came with liner. I'm really liking it - nice, true red, a little sheer, with more gloss than I usually like, but with the liner it's a very nice daytime red. Fades to a nice, natural red on me...
I can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned it yet, but I've found that spending 5 minutes brushing with a boar bristle brush at night has done wonders for my hair.
I've been lucky - I've got thick (but not horse-thick) hair that's been really healthy, despite a dye addiction that took years to...
Just gotta pipe in about eye creams...
I really like what Paula Begoun has to say about eye creams:
http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/art.asp?ID=185
I've always felt that eye creams are just moisturizers with more wax or something to make them thicker. I've found that my regular facial...
Resurrecting this thread...
I've got to pipe in. It's been about a month since I started my experiment with cold cream, and I've got to say...Wow! I've got oily skin that gets cystic acne monthly. I've been using Proactiv solution regularly, but that's been getting expensive, and my skin...
Ponds is definitely going to see an increase in sales. I've heard it too many times now. I've bought a jar, I'm going to start using the Ponds in the evening! I have to know if Ponds will make my oily, acne'd skin behave!
Oh! The Gallery of Regrettable Food!
I hadn't thought of that in a long time. I spent many an hour giggling through those!
Apparantly my fave pamper myself activity is shared - I like to get into my pajamas, crawl into bed with my cat and several movies. I'll order in dinner, eat cookies...
I have a 10 1/2 month-old son. Even when I was hugely pregnant, spending the time on making myself up didn't make me feel much better, so I just let it go. I decided comfort was better than style. I lived in my stretchy waist jeans, and the only nod to vintage I took was a 50's-esque cuff on...
Oh - and on the subject of diet and acne. Here's my theory - for a large portion of people who get acne, especially females, I think that acne is hormonally related - especially if you're one of those who gets big chin cysts around ovulation/period time.
Cutting out wheat or sugars helps...
I've got to speak up again for Paula Begoun:
http://www.paulaschoice.com/learn/art.asp?ID=138
I learned a lot from her skin care research. It helped me narrow down what worked for me.
I'm currently using a combination of
1) DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (Theory being that Oil can remove oil...
Another Non-Vintage ROutine
When I tried vintage-i-fying (cold cream or soap, witch hazel, etc) , I ended up with mucho acne. I need the chemical exfoliants and benzoyl peroxide! So, I went back to modern times:
Morning
1. Shower, brush teeth, hair wash & condition every day (oily skin...
I think 99% of my posts are about lipstick
You mean the Avon "My Lip Miracle"? I liked that lipstick - I got one called "Super Red" that looked very vintage-y on me. But, like all the L'oreal lipstick, I only wear it occasionally - I can't stand the fragrance. Too flowery. That's one of the...
Speaking as someone who has had cystic acne since puberty, I second the support of Proactiv solution and the regimen from acne.org - especially the Benzoyl Peroxide gel he sells (although I don't use as much as he recommends, and I exfoliate with a beta hydroxy acid). I've done both (depending...
