Mrs. Crumrine and I have enjoyed, at least a little, several flamenco acts we've been fortunate enough to see. A week or so ago one of her clients offered to arrange tickets to see a new-to-us dancer, Lakshmi Basile, perform at the Fountain Theatre in Hollywood. Well, that woman will certainly change your mind about flamenco! She does a gypsy style that is entirely gripping, and the passion / sadness / determination that comes from her face and body is unlike any flamenco we've seen previously. She fills the room.
The question came on the drive back home. "How many styles of flamenco are there?" Who are the "must-see" performers? Is there a circuit, like bullriders have?
I would be grateful for any help you can offer in understanding this remarkable dance-culture.
