The only original item of Sean Connery’s clothing used in the celebrated “Designing 007” exhibition was a navy Chesterfield overcoat made by Anthony Sinclair in 1962 for the first James Bond movie, Dr. No.

I finally found a vintage overcoat in my size. This one actually dated September 1943!
In really good condition for its age.
Maker: Barron-Anderson of Boston
Sold at Harry Suffrin shop Downtown Detroit (The store was founded in 1922)

Pattern and Style:“ Stoneface Overcoat "
Gray herringbone tweed wool with Blue windowpane
Three button/Two hand hip pockets
Size: 42

Owned by someone named A.E. Tennant at 8550 La Salle Blvd. Detroit MI (Rosa Parks Neighborhood)
This handsome house still stands today. Built in 1924
I could not find any info on A.E. Tennant and no previous owner of the house was named Tennant but it was common for owners to rent out a room to wartime factory workers so it may not be too much of a stretch to think this person was living there in that capacity. Detroit's role in the war, when the auto factories turned out tanks, warplanes, bombs and guns earned it a place in history as the "Arsenal of Democracy". (a term coined by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during one of his Fireside Chat radio broadcasts.) Rosa Parks Neighborhood is only 30 minutes to the famed Ford's Willow Run plant where B-24 bombers were built.

(Update: a fellow forum member mentioned this research info to me just now; “…the daughter of the couple who owned the house, Mr. and Mrs. Louis W. Blauman, had gotten married in 1941, opening up some space. I found a newspaper mention of a serviceman's wife and baby living there in December of 1943, which further supports the theory that they were renting out rooms.”)

@Edward Reed that is a fine looking coat. Unlike the coats made during the last 30 years or so, I imagine it is a heavy and warm wool. I just checked my 3 overcoats, and they are so thin. They look nice, but won't keep out the wind and the cold. Unfortunately, I outgrew my heavy coat from 40 years ago and donated it to Goodwill. Would love to have another.

@Edward Reed that is a fine looking coat. Unlike the coats made during the last 30 years or so, I imagine it is a heavy and warm wool. I just checked my 3 overcoats, and they are so thin. They look nice, but won't keep out the wind and the cold. Unfortunately, I outgrew my heavy coat from 40 years ago and donated it to Goodwill. Would love to have another.

Thanks! It does have some good weight to it and very well balanced. It feels good… I should probably wear a more colorful tie with it! Lol! Now I await appropriate weather to wear it… I live on the coast of South Carolina and it’s going to be in the low to mid 70s every day for the next week…It’s already 70° right now at 10 AM! Oh well… I can maybe wear it for a couple hours in the morning when it’s still about 40° or so… Usually January and February are cold enough to wear something like this. I was hoping to go watch tomorrow’s Christmas parade in this get up but it’s supposed to reach about 66° by the time it starts.

It's an amazing coat and you're very lucky to have found one in your size. One feature I really like on vintage single-breasted overcoats is the overlap: note how far over the buttons are set, giving a nice overlap of the lapels, not as much as a double-breasted coat but enough to keep you warm. By contrast, my experience and observation of modern single-breasted coats is they have very little overlap.

Don't worry, the cold weather will come!

This guy was caught red handed, stealing a newspaper. I have a rain coat just like that. Mine was a discount clearance item at a factory clearance sale, from a mass retailer. I was told that it was a limited production run of samples, which were never actually sold in the stores. Single breasted. To the knees. A removable quilted liner. Pass through pocket slits. Beltless. Mine is never hung, just tossed haphazardly on the back of a chair, so that I have that rumpled look. I have no idea where the thief got his raincoat.
