Looks like we all will be paying more for our hats from Australia with the current exchange rate. Hats Direct has the Stylemaster @ $109.77 + $35.00shpg. ($144.77 total) David Morgan has it @ $135.00 + $8.00 shpg ( $143.00 total) and it takes 4 days on average to get a hat from him. :) (but you don't have that fashionable wait either )

Still $90.14 from EA with $19.01 S&H. Usually ten day delivery to US for these in stock hats. You would have to be a very impatient person or have a need for immediate gratification not to be able to wait ten days for a hat.

Thats good, but they only have two colors, Acorn and Mid Grey in stock, the other 4 colors have a 3 mo. wait.

Yes, but we were discussing the Fawn and Carbon Gray colors - the same as ("now") offered by your beloved David Morgan. You really have an issue with ordering hats from OZ, but to each his own. Unfortunately DM only offers a fraction of the Akubra line.

I don't have any issue with getting things from Oz, I get my R.M. Williams boots from there, have for over 30 years. I just find it strange how everyone whines about how long it takes or why don't they stock this color or that here about there order from OZ. It's almost as if it's some sort of badge of belonging to do it. It's a hat, you ordered it, it gets to you when it does. Guess I'm getting to old for this "collector" thing. Just been wearing hats for over 40 years now. Oh well :)

I already have one (along with dark gray and acorn colors). I paid approximately $90 and $30 or so shipping, but I usually order two hats at a time. the Moonstone is my wife's favorite hat in my (small) collection. The Acorn and Carbon/Steel Gray are colors Akubra keeps in stock but all others seem to be specials. Acorn is a neat color that changes depending on the light source.

Is the Acorn a light brown?

I'm thinking my next two Akubra hats will be a Cattleman in sand and a Campdraft in glen grey...though the Bushman, mid-gray Cattleman and khaki Slouch are appealing as well.

I think you'll like the Glen Grey Campdraft, Neo. It's a nice mid-dark cold tone.

I apologize if this has been covered before, but do you guys think there are any major differences between the crowns of the Stylemaster and the Sydney? Aside from the SM's coming pre-creased? They look like pretty much the same hat, save for the bound brim on the Stylemaster.
Just wondering for future options, I have a Sydney in regency fawn (see avatar) and it's the hat I'm currently wearing the most frequently.

You can always do the OZ order thing. Get a Bushman as it is one I know you will love. It's a 5 1/2" open crown and you can play with it to your hearts delight :) As for the Cattleman the Sand color as offered in OZ is just too washed out a non color for me. I like the Fawn color that DM carries though you won't have to take the liner out if you get one from OZ as I believe they don't have a liner in that model as sold in OZ. The felt on BOTH these hats is almost IDENTICAL IMO and though firm, is very creaseable, the Cattleman gets easier the wetter it gets. A couple of complete imersians in a stock tank as mine's had will do the trick if you want to change the pre-creased crown on the Cattleman. BTW, the lambskin sweats that Akubra uses stand up to getting wet rather well in my experience. No shrinkage on my Cattleman and it's still soft and wearable. :)

I posted this in another thread, but can't seem to get an answer, so ill try here, lol...

I was curious if anyone can answer this question.

I recently ordered from Everything Australian, the Akubra Down Under in the color black. Before that, I had emailed quite a few other retailers online and they all said that the Akubra Down Under in the color black had been discontinued. I even went on the Akubra.au website and they show no black for the Down Under. I even went as far to email Akubra and they said that it was discontinued and couldn't even be specially ordered. During this time, I had emailed Everything Australian and told them if they are still able to get me the Hat in black, and had told them that other retailers were telling me that it had been discontinued. Couple days later they gave me an email back saying that they can confirm that they are able to get me the Akubra Down Under in black, and that it would take 3 months.

Anyways, I am very confused, I obviously believe them that they are able to get it for me, but how? Are some online retailers able to specially order some things from Akubra, and others are not??

If anyone has an answer, please reply! It would be really appreciated

I have this hat. My wife said I looked like willy wonka. It is a green/brown color. I had the brim cut down to 2 1/2 and reblocked it into a c crown. The brim is down front to back and the sides are slightly up on the sides. The felt on this hat is thick and course. It is my rain hat. It is built tough. Beaver Brand makes a gambler style hat almost identical to the Down Under.

Akubra price increase

Hi guys, I have been away for a week so maybe someone has already posted the same info elsewhere. When I was checking my e-mail today I see Cheryl at Noggintops says the price for Akubra hats is going to rise. For anyone who is contemplating a purchase soon it may be of interest. Maybe strictly a US distributor price increase?

Quote from Cheryl:

"Just as a notice to our customers who love the Akubra hats, I have been made aware that the price of the hats is going to rise by $10.00 per hat beginning on May 1st."

Since Noggintops (and all other US sellers) get their Akubras from David Morgan I would imagine DM's prices will be going up as well. I bought my Banjo Paterson hats (on sale) from Noggintops and my Bushman from David Morgan. Too bad all Akubra styles and colors are not offered in the US but I have always received great service from EA and Hats Direct.
